Front number plate surround

My number plate surround has a little nick out of it and it appears a colour-coded replacement is quite expensive especially as the mark is barely visible to the untrained eye. But, y'know- I know it's there...

Any experience with these?

Stick your plate straight onto the bumper?

I guess I could do that- I just quite like the surround as a little nod back to my old E30 M3 which had them
