Front lights - will postfacelift light fit prefacelift car?

Simple question really: will a pair of HALOGEN postfacelift lights fit a prefacelift Z4? :!:

It's halogen in this case - I currently have halogens so not concerned about xenon compatibility...

I think I know what the answer to this might be - that they might have different wiring looms? - but I'd be grateful if anyone could clarify this for me...

Cheers

Ah feck it then :D

Guessed it would be too easy to pick up a set of postfacelift clear-lensed lights and plug-and-play into my prefacelift.

Does anyone know if it's plausible to adapt the wiring loom to allow them to work? I'm not too keen on this idea due to my limited knowledge, but it seems my options for changing to clear-lensed lights are extremely limited without buying a set to chop up and use my current internals...

I'm sure I read on here a while ago someone that had fitted facelift halogens to a pre-facelift car, IIRC the only wiring issue being the indicator, something about there being two bulbs and only one was wired on the pre-facelift loom.

Will see if I can find the thread again.

This wasn't what I was looking for, but...

Looking at those part numbers in RealOEM they list for a E85 and E86.

Am determined to find this other post... it was someone who had a friend at BMW who got the new lights at a good discount - loads of offers from other members to be this guy's friend too.

HAHA BEAT YOU TO IT!!!! :P :poke: :poke:

I thought that would be the quickest way to find it... I'm having a cup of tea

Good work

Ally, the bit about the indicators is on page 2. Be worth checking the part numbers with the OP just to be on the safe side.

Happy hunting! It's so nice to be out of the clear light melee 8) That said, part of me does miss the thrill of the chase!

Ah well it's all academic now - they sold this afternoon on ebay and I wasn't the buyer :(

But while we're on the topic, I'd like to try and find out if they would've fitted - the part numbers weren't the same as in the link pawnsacrifice and peddy linked to. The part numbers of the ones I was looking at today on ebay were:

passenger/left = 63127165675
driver/right = 63127165676

According to realoem, that makes them postfacelift "2006-on" black-inner headlights from a 2.0i E85: LINK TO REALOEM

From earlier comments (and backed up by searching I did on z4-forum, so not all srhutch's fault :poke:) I thought the wiring loom was different, so I backed out of the auction. But was I wrong???

Is the only difference in wiring the change to the indicators? 3 bulbs instead of 2? If that's the only difference between prefacelift and postfacelift halogen light units then that's easily dealt with. But that's an expensive IF, if it turns out they are more different than that...

Any help? My head hurts...

a11y, I would think they would be worth a punt, if they dont work, you could always sell them on.

I blame CJ about the info, I'm sure it was him that posted it

+1 even with carriage included I managed to turn a small profit on the facelift bumper and xenon headlight offered on here - bought and sold on eBay... luck trumps judgement every time!

Also, bumper and lights off is a fairly easy job to test the theory.

Only thing with those lights is they reduce the appearance of the car to that of a smaller engine, black liners are 2.5 or lower. However, I suspect only people on here would notice (and then not all) and personally I prefer the contrast on titanium silver. Very much personal preference.

I'll see if I can find any part numbers listed for mine.

Yep, I think it was cj that had commented in a previous thread about different wiring looms :D

He's never wrong, but I'm just wondering to what extent the loom on a halogen set needs to be fiddled with to make them work in a prefacelift. Only one way to find out, the search goes on...

Interestingly doing some PM exchanges and research with Peddy we concluded that the post facelift halogen is the same light unit as the prefacelift. My research and work had always been confined to working between pre and post facelift xenon and they are very different in internal structure, wiring, LCM control, etc. Halogens I'd only every used as a source of spare parts ('cos that's all they are worth :poke: )

What I cannot say is if a post facelift halogen is a direct plug and play into a prefacelift. It needs someone who has a halogen set up to plug one in and see. You can do that easily by reaching in the access panel and pulling the loom out under the wing to plug into a test unit. I did this to set up someone else's lights.

Perhaps I'm giving you some hope a11y

Cheers cj

Feel like kicking myself now for backing out of buying that pair of halogen postfacelifts on ebay yesterday now  but I'll be watching for future. I'm willing to be a guinea pig for this I think...
