Front light cluster mod.....

I like many others have never been happy with the orange repeaters in the front lights, the only option has been to trade up to the clear light cluster of the facelift car, well i don't have £600 to do that so i did this.

I am well pleased with the result, it gives the car a total new look at the front end and has got rid of the bright orange reflectors which i hated.......

I used some light tinting spray, as said i just taped up the face of the light and sprayed it......

That works and has certainly removed the vivid orange of the lenses.

You must have had to take great care cutting in the masked edge on the outer lens to keep it straight and crisp

I hope it's durable, but worst case is just a light touch up spray next time.

Neat job

masking was easy Phil, to get the smooth line i used electrical tape which bends and stretchs round corners a treat. As for durability I had this thought , if it starts to stone chip and come off then an easy fix is to remove it, there is a removal spray available, and re spray them, it took me about half an hour to do them.....

PVC tape was of ourse the way to go. clean edge and compared to masking tape that would have allowed the spay to creep under the ridges.

If I had gone that route I woudl have purchased the US tinting film and cut it down, but since you memntion it can be remowed spraying is a great way to go :)

I really like the new look...
It's very subtle and not outrageous, but adds something that you just don't put your finger on right away... but you know is there...

I have to think about this mod in my black Zed..

How come you did not take off the bumper cover then removed the lights?

Absolutley no need to, just be very acurate with masking the light cluster and it's fine to spray the tint on, there is quite alot of room around the light to get masking tape right in and cover the surrounding area... And is your car the 2.5????, if so you will have the black inners on your light which i think will work even better than the silver ones on mine....

I was wondering, has anyone attempted or at least contemplated a signal cluster mod a la Audi R8? Something like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mischiru/2200713129/

Based upon my experience of pulling apart several sets of Z4 lights I do not believe the internal structure is suitable to fit them in a good looking position. You could perhaps run a short row along the lower rear creaseline of the reflector. Frankly fitting 'conventional' Angel eyes was a far easier route

Those R8 style LED's might look good under the facelift front fog lights as daytime running lights. Should be an easy mod.

Plowy probably won't be on here much any more so I think you'll need to email him or PM him to get the original pics. It did look good though as a far cheaper alternative to swapping out the lights so it's worth hunting down the pics.
