Front Licence Plates

About a year ago there was a thread on here with people saying they were going to remove the front number plate from their cars, cos they thought it ruined the look.

How did they get on? Did they get stopped by the police, or has it been trouble free?

I would prefer to have no front plate, but don't think its legal, so wont remove it. However, it doesn't seem that motorbikes need a front plate, so why is it different for cars?
 
Can't see the point of removing the front number plate then to have it wedged on the dash :thumbsdown:
 
I've not heard that front plates aren't required on the front of UK cars, but they are definately required in France and, as far as I know, all other EU countries.

Exactly, if you take it off cos you don't like the look, then putting it in the dash looks pants, so defeats the object.

But I'm sure there were people on here who were removing them completely and were confident they wouldn't get police hassle for it, so I'm wondering how they got on.
 
I didn't have a front one from march-December last year.

Never an issue, wasn't stopped, plenty of police where I live.

Do not wedge it in your dash, this is ugly and illegal, however, if it fell of whilst driving and was there when you left the house, that's just a faulty bit of tape from halfords! ;-)

I only put mine on because I was going to France in December, but I bought a bracket that screws into the underside and can be removed without leaving visible holes!

Motorbikes used to have number plates on the front which followed the line of the wheel arch/mud guard... It was explained to me they were considered to be a bit of a head splitter if you went over the handlebars so for safety I don't think they are required now... Bit unfair as they can bomb through average speed cameras :wink:
 
Quad bikes are classed as cars. You ride them on car licence not motorcycle licence. They don't need front plates. You also don't need front plates on tractors.
 
Exactly, if cars need a front plate for identification purposes, then why is it different for bikes? If its safety, then couldn't it be redesigned?

Different rules for different types of vehicle!
