Front hub centre cap/bung question

So I have fitted new wheels to my Z4M Roadster and I can’t fit my new centre caps (BMW self levelling ones) on the front due to the concave nature of the wheels.
The hub has a bung/cap on it that sticks out a fair way (like you used to get on FWD cars that covered the d/shaft nut and split pin).
The question is: What is this covering on the Z4? Is it just a cover and I can remove it/replace with a flat one or bash it flatter?

Car is Z4M but don’t think that has any relevance.

You can see it in the pic.

The big nut that holds the hub on is behind that cover.

Ah, okay. Thanks for that. Looks like a no go then (I will take it off to see how much free space there is).

I might have to fit none self levelling ones to the front then.

It fits on like the lid of golden syrup tin, or paint tin, so there’s a likelihood of it deforming if you take it off. I don’t think removing it will give you much extra space, unless it’s only a mm or two that you need.

Thanks. I think I need a bit more than 2mm so I will have a measure up before trying to remove it.
