Front fog facelift

The front fogs have gone very crusty. What options do I have, other than going to BMW and buying a new set.

Is there aftermarket options? Can they be refurbished?

Many thanks,
Dan

They are always an issue.

I don't think there is an aftermarket option, but I'm sure a few people have taken them apart to refurb them but it's a pretty laborious process.

I can't remember the last time I used front fogs, so I'd be inclined to get the blanking plates from BMW as 2 litre E85s didn't have them.

A few places sell hella aftermarket’s (check autodoc) but they aren’t cheap

And as @Mr Tidy says you can split them and refurbish them fairly easily

Could maybe try a basic headlight restoration kit/sanding before a full refurb if that's a laborious process.

I've seen few aftermarket before and they're not cheap plus they still suffer condensation and corrosion.

I restored mine 2 years ago and still fine upto this day. I opened it, sanded it and used chrome spray paint.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll have a go at restoring them.

@GenZed how did you clean the old chrome/reflective to paint it with chrome paint? What did you use to reseal the lamps?

Many thanks,
Dan

I used 800 sand paper finished it to 2000 grit. primed and spray it chrome using halfords spray paint then sealed it with tiger seal. 2hrs process from opening to sealing. its not hard as you think as seals comes off really quick with some heat.

goodluck 👍

Has anyone tried E87 1 Series fog lights? They look a similar size and wondered if anyone's tried splitting and using the E87 internals.
