Front bumper respray midlands?

My Mum managed to open her car door into the front of my bumper (!) - her car was parked sideways in front of mine. Anyway it's created a chip out of the front bumper, only about 5mm wide and 5mm high but 5mm deep also, so I'm guessing it'll need to be filled and the whole front bumper resprayed.

I really don't want to take it to sytner

Can anyone recommend anywhere good in the midlands that'll do a proper job?

Where in the midlands? I'm about to use a BMW approved place here in Warwick that I've heard good things about, & they always have well polished expensive cars coming through whenever I visit.

I know a good place in derby which stratstones send their cars too.... Generally it's £250 a bumper.

I had some work done at http://www.atherstonearc.co.uk/ and they did a cracking job. I had the front and rear bumpers done on my impreza for £250 but they were rebuilding the left side after a bus drove into it so they might have knocked the price down a bit as it was already there.

I had a large scrape on the underside leading edge of the bumper filled, polished and 1/2 bumper respray at BMW Synter Cardiff for £100.

That sounds like an ideal candidate for a SMART repair rather than a full respray of the bumper. Chips away etc should be more than capable of doing a decent repair.

Avoid chips away for this sort or repair. They do a localised spray and blend in but on such a visible point it will start to show in a matter of months.

I have a professional paint shop owner/buddy in Lichfield if that's any good. Does all mine and some other forum members. Just done my new Jag diffuser. Spray, lacquer and machine polished.

Based in Daventry, they sprayed my last E30 and have done a number of jobs for me since, top work, bumper respray usually around £150

A decent smart repairer will do a permanently invisible repair. The technology and skills involved have improved dramatically in the last few years.

As a paint spray booth manufacturer, i have a vested interest in not promoting SMART repairs as it means less work for bodyshops who buy my products. But modern SMART repairs are very good.

At the end of the day you pay the money so make your own choice.

Lower - as you say - pay's you money and takes your choice. I'd get a full panel resprayed every time. Put some depth of paint and lacquer on. I'm sure though a good local repair is better than a bad respray, etc.

Out of interest what's changed in technology lately that makes them better now?

SMART repairers used to use acrylic paints which made paint matching difficult and there were also adhesion issues that meant the repair often started to become visible over time.

The main thing now is that mobile SMART repairers are now using the same paint, paint mixing schemes and repair techniques as would be used for the same repair in a bodyshop, but over a much smaller area . The industry has just learnt how to do it in a mobile environment.

The main issue now with mobile repairs is cleanliness. Its much harder to get the required level of cleanliness in a mobile environment, but on a small area repair that's less of an issue.

Thanks - interesting update. Good to hear they are at last using proper paint and matching techniques.
