Front bumper mounts

Hi all

Have noticed that my front bumper is loose on one side, doesn't feel clipped up to the wing if that makes sense.

I have undone a few of the plastic rivets for the wheel arch liner to take a look inside and I think there should be some kind of black bracket which the bumper slides into?

I think it's item 20 in this pic.

Anyone able to explain how the bumper is held in place here?

Yep, number 20. Its bolted to the car, a single bolt I think, and the bumper pretty much clips to it, you can see the 3 protruding items on the top of the item in the picture, well, the bumper has grooves and gaps that line up with these and they slide together. Its a tight fit.

You should be able to see a 'slice' of black plastic between the bumper and the wing where they meet, thats the bracket. If you dont see it, maybe someone has done a dodgy job of remoutning the bumper without it. They're 20-30 pounds, so if they broke it maybe didn't want to buy another?
 
It's not bolted to the car, it clips to the wing and then the bumper pushes into it.

A broken one isn't easy to remove from the wing, once it's in, you have to break to take it out I believe.

They're about £25 from a dealer
 
I'm 100% sure there is a bolt in the centre of it, as I've had my bumper off again this weekend to try to sort the headlight condensation for the billionth time :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: ...

I dont know if this is holding it on, but there is def a bolt there.

The bolt is holding the wing onto the car, not the clip to the wing.
 
okey dokey - so the next obvious question i suppose is how easy is it to take the bumper off?

The drivers side looks fine and is nice and tight, so i'm guessing there is just a bit of snapped plastic or something on my passenger side 'part 20', resulting in the movement.

bumper is easy to take off, theres a guide on here to show you exactly what you need to do.

i also had to order one of those bracket last week as mine had broken. cost £25 iirc.
 
The bumper off is a 10 minute job, however, to replace that clip, the bumper doesn't need to be removed, and you run the risk of damaging the clip on the other side.

Personally I would try not to, just because its easier not to. That being said, if you can't get good enough access to take the old clip off, then yes it will be easier.
