Front bumper lip protector?

When I got my car I knew there were a few minor scrapes etc, that I was going to get repaired but didnt realise the extent of the scrapes to the bottom of the front bumper.

I think TBH I may have added some of them myself in the short time I have owned it by going over speed bumps but even hitting larger ones at <10mph I still hear that scraping sound at the front (they are rife and also horribly high in Huddersfield) in fact even some roads have sharp enough angles to scrape the front. I have done my best to adjust my driving but with the roof down I can still occasionally hear that dreaded scrape noise.

So my question is is there something I can get to protect the new paint finish once this has been re-sprayed or do I just have to accept front scrapes as a caveat of Z ownership?

I have seen a couple of options but dont think either would be any good (for me), one is a lip which will make the bumper much lower so will probably result in me ripping off my bumper on any speed bump http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SPLITTER-FRONT-BUMPER-LIP-SPOILER-FOR-BMW-Z4-SERIES-E85-E86-PRE-FACELIFT-/221339115137?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3388d6de81 = a big NO NO and the other is a rhino lip http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rhino-Lip-universal-bumper-protector-lower-splitter-/321795637844?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4aec83c254 which looks like it will just rip off.

Any other options to protect the paint finish from chips once its been re done and don't say move to somewhere without bumps and hills as I like it round here and there are some bloody good roads I can get the Z stuck into!

RPI manufacture skid plates for the M bumper http://www.ca-int.co.uk/single_prod-cHJvZF9pZD0yMjY5.html

Sure there must be a non-M version out there. Probably not that difficult to fabricate/have fabricated if they are not off the shelf.

Cheers! quite liking the idea of metal although it may encourage me to try and bottom it out to get some F1 style sparks

It actually says:
These metal plates attach securely to the underside of the Z4 / Z4M front bumper at each corner

So maybe these also fit the non M version, still thinking £81.54 delivered may be a bit steep for a couple of little metal plates....

There's a towbar centre just up from where I work who have fabricated a few bits for us in the past so I may ahve to go have a word with him see if he can do something similar for me cheaper. Thanks for the inspiration though I may still end up going with these if i cant find a cheaper option.

Was about to link you this... then saw you were the last response in there anyway!

Hi 85genius

Are you totally sure its the bottom of the bumper that is catching,
Mine made the same noise when entering my drive from the road and again going down the small lip into my actual drive way.

When I bent down and got the wife to drive in slowly I discovered it was not the bumper bottom but it was the two flaps that hang down infront of the front wheels..

Might be worth a quick visual check

Will do! thanks for the tip.

I just assumed because of the chips and other damage to the bottom front bumper that that was where it was catching. Needless to say I now go much slower over any type of bump so hopefully I can keep it pristine once I'v had the work done
