France-Italy Roadtrip - Ideas, Thoughts, Experiences

This year we're planning a road-trip to France and Italy. The rough idea is Chamonix, Como, Verona, Modena, Provence and back up. The last time I did such an epic road-trip I got loads of ideas from people on here who had done something similar. The best tip was The Vecours, an experience and place we'll both never forget.

We're not ones for visiting the main tourist hotspots, we like to try and find those secret hidden gems.

If anyone has done something similar or done a road-trip to these places, please share any ideas, thoughts or experiences.

Thanks in advance.

Did that route a few years back

Deffo route through the alps it’s stunning. Watch your speed though- they are very keen on speed traps

It will stay with me for life the transition from Switzerland driving to Italian. It turns into whacky races 100 metres from the border.

I genuinely saw a Ferrari hit the autostrada near marranello to be pestered by a fleet of fiat pandas and puntos all wanting to race!

Verona and florence are amazing but don’t miss Turin. I did like a mini Italian job tour which was excellent (if you like the film)

Hope you have a good time!

Thanks for tip on Turin!! I'll defo not be racing any Ferrari's...or Panda's by the sound of it!

The plan is to see the Ferrari and Lambo museums whilst we're in Modena. Shame the Stelvio is so far North or else that would have been a defo (even if its just to say I've done it that one time).

I think (although we didn’t manage it) the Alfa museum is good too have a Google

In Provence you have the mont ventoux and his region ( Gordes/ ocre of Roussillon)
If you like roman history you can go to Arles
To visit the museum / antic Arena
Very close you have sainte marie de la mer and the camargue région.

Here’s a hidden gem: In Provence, St-Paul-de-Vence, museum fondation Maeght and lovely hotels (La Colombe d'Or!) in a small town.
