Hi guys went to view a very nice 2.5 in silver today. Car was excellent, a few minor things but the car has been stood for quite a few weeks, and there was a distinct high pitched whine from the front of the engine bay. I think it was coming from below the alternator/fan belt area. This is going to be sorted before we purchase. To me it sounds like the bearing in a belt tensioner that has give up.
Will stand to be corrected by the more knowledgeable folk out there.
What do you think?
Car drove very well, really tight and smooth as a car with only 37000 miles and full history should do. :driving:

Highly likely cause from the description. There is an idler and tensioner and both need replacing. I'd have a new pair of belts on at the same time (serpentine and air con).

Can't say it's a good deal of not, without age, spec, price.
If from a dealers post a link to the car.

Not really - bit fiddly and you need to remember how the belts are threaded around all the pulleys and a certain knack to move the tensioner.

I did it myself, but Inc parts I'd expect £150+ at a garage
