Ford C- Max question

Hi Guys

My wife replaced her car with a Ford C-Max 2004 plate 1.8 Duratec Engine.

The problem is that after 60 mph the car doesnt feel safe ( stable)

It is like the wind blow you in every direction. Maybe unbalanced wheels?

or maybe... Ford C-max is like that? i cant believe that you cant drive at least with 70 Mph..

What do you think?
 
I just had a cmax for the week (as a hire car) it was a 13 reg but can confirm even though it was windy (down south) over the last few days the car is pretty stable even at motorway speeds.. But the wind does affect it... Much more then it did in my 1 series.

I'm on my second C-Max in 8 years and they should be very stable and sure-footed, in fact very similar to the Focus which shares the majority of it's chassis & suspension.
Both mine needed lower front suspension arm bushes quite early and new rear springs which go baggy upsetting the rear (non-adjustable) camber, either of which will give a nasty sensation. I also find them really sensitive to low tyre pressures so that's worth checking first.
 
Agree with the lower wishbone bushes they are the same as the same year mondeo and they wander awfully as the lower rear bushes wear out.

See if the steering wheel twitches when getting on and off the brakes or accelerator. If it twitches even slightly get the bushes sorted.

Ok i think i know whats the problem.

I tested again the car.. there is no wobble in the steering wheel.

The feeling that the car is not stable is because the steering is too soft on high speeds.

Any ideea how can i fix it? If i go with 18 inch wheels will it harden the steering?

I doubt that's the cause of genuine wandering at motorway speeds but may be a matter of steering preference I suppose :?
Anyway if you check your owners manual you should be able to use the master ignition key to adjust the steering settings from the dash computer, something like comfort, normal and sport from memory.

Bigger wheels with less sidewall rubber may make it worse not better, I'de honestly suggest getting the suspension examined and a wheel alignment per my last post.

i tried to change the steering but it seems i do not have this option ( or i think ) on 2004 c max ghia.

I tried like this:

car stationary
turn ignition
roll the menu till i get to settings
then on settings i only have metrics and language.
