Force Software Upgrade

How do you force a software installation? I have had the latest version downloaded onto the car for months waiting to be asked to start installation and nothing.

Many thanks

There was a thread a little while ago that had this problem, the car battery needs to be 100%, so he connected his battery charger overnight then tried next morning and it worked. You also need a good mobile signal

I posted about this on Facebook, and sounds like the issue is related to many factors, and could be as simple as the upgrade jump is too great, so it doesnt install in case of any possible issues it would introduce. Mine is also stuck at the car side installation, with no progress for almost 2 weeks.

I removed the battery and fully charged it, and even had it on a conditioner for a few days, but its made no difference.

Reluctant to go main dealer, as they will not only charge me to look at it, but probably say i need a new battery, coding of battery, and then the time taken for software update ! When its something that should just work.

If your car is under warranty, then its a no brainer, just take it straight to the stealer to resolve.

Thanks, unfortunately its out of warranty. Have similar concerns with main dealer. I am sure there is some command sequence to kick it off, but BMW keep these things secret

Battery was an issue with mine. Once I had it replaced all the updates have just installed automatically OOTA. Before then my service centre just installed them for free when I was in for a service. Some dealers charge for this though.

I had the same issue a while back. I asked BMW to force it in while it was in for a scheduled service. Apparently the software update can effectively 'jam up' - which isn't helpful. I had the software update forced on for free.
Since then, my app has successfully uploaded another software update with no issues.
Strictly speaking, if BMW are going to rely on end users to use phone apps and car connections to update their cars, BMW should freely offer to rectify any errors or issues if their own system has failed. I'd have a friendly chat with your local dealership πŸ‘πŸ»

Had this recently. Battery was the issue.
Any other symptoms? Does auto stop start work?

I've been trying to get this sorted for months, my battery is fully charged and the download is complete on the phone. My local dealer wanted to charge Β£160+vat to investigate, spoke to BMW on 3 separate occasions about it and just gone round in circles. Funny enough I jumped into the car a week ago and half my apps were missing, I then got an email from BMW saying I can have them back for a year for Β£89+vat. So, the system works flawlessly when BMW want money from you! So I've met a few G29 owners suffering the same predicament, how many other BMWs are also in the same position?

It’s not just BMW, Jaguar is just the same, if I get a G29 I will buy the extended warranty it costs Β£500+ a year but does cover most things.

Think I would change my main dealer or complain to BMW UK. I had the same issue a while back and my local dealer just gave me a memory stick with the latest upgrade on it and told me to return it when it was complete and I didn't even buy the car from them.

I'd email BMW UK. Surely your own dealership should be helping you out. They've only got to plug it into a bloody laptop πŸ€¦πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„ Β£160 + vat !?!? ffs......πŸ™„

Which dealership was this?

They are now part of the Vertu group, they were one of two independent BMW garages at Boldon and Durham.

I use Lloyds at Newcastle now who are pretty good so far
