Nice Zed. Good luck with the sale. I think you're optimistic on the price though and may have some serious haggling to do

I reckon that's a realistic asking price for a coupe with that spec myself, even if this is the worst possible time to be selling a car of this type. The fact that it's red is going to make it a bit more difficult to shift however. Good luck.

Perhaps I should expand my thinking..

I guess a car is worth what someone is prepared to pay and in the current UK climate it's probably a challenge and haggle.

A glance at Parker's (not adjusted for mileage or options) gives private at £22,900 to £24,600, indy at £26,300 and main agent at £27,585 This example is a not so saleable red and no 'wow' features aside the desirable Sat Nav and carbon leather trim

A quick look shows you can get a 2008 9k miles, carbon black, 2 tone leather, sat nav, electric memory seats, etc. BMW main agent for £29,950 That's pretty much a brand new car in mileage and age and carries full dealer warranties. I know which I'd go for, for £4k more

Either way just an opinion and I sincerely hope it makes the price.

Very interesting those prices as the latest trade in I heard about of a roadster of identical age, same options and 18k miles was 18K ...

I see where you're coming from with your comments, but I feel they're a bit harsh in a for sale thread.

No need for the comment above if you ask me.

The prices of these cars are absolutely ridiculous, and personally I'm pretty p1ssed at BMW for devaluing them (or overpricing them in the first place).

Sorry for my comments but I use another forum where this often happens and it frustrates me. Advice, fine, but...

Hey ho.

To the OP - good luck with the sale - will be interested to know how you go on as yours is only 3 months older than mine.

On the other hand, it could save the OP time after all. It is very, very rare that anyone sells a car to a fellow forum member, but more likely sells it elsewhere so there won't be any damage to the sales chances overall.

If another member gives advice / suggestion on pricing, it may help the OP to price it differently elsewhere to actually achieve a sale.

Hence I said I see where he's coming from.

I just think they were a tad harsh.

senwar I understand your comments, agre with the frustration at BMW pricing, but add a couple of thoughts.

Initially I only posted a 1 liner complimenting the Zed, wishing the seller well and suggesting that the price was optimistic and there may be some serious haggling to do. Only when a subsequent post challenged the valuation, did I expand on it fully with my rationale.

The comments are not designed to be harsh, merely my opinion of the prices I pulled off public domain sites that any buyer would do too. Most private owners overestimate the value of their car, are out of touch with the market and frequently waste time by so doing and end up dropping to a much lower price as time passes to sell quicker.

In the last month I have sold one car and purchased 2, one of which is a BMW, so am well versed in the realities of the current market and how little anything is actually worth.

Fair enough.

BTW - just another note - that interior in the one you posted will be a neg selling point surely?

The BMW dealership one - I'm not sure - I love red interiors and the 2 tone could look good. It's all so personal with interiors and one combo just does it for some and not others.

Right - back to goodfella selling his car :driving:

Hmmm... still trying to figure that one out. What is not saleable about Imola Red on a Z? Is it a British/European preference thing?
It sure seems to be a hot item in the US, from what I have seen anyway.
In fact, Imola Red being available only on an M-car would seem to be an additional exclusivity factor. No???

Oh colours are such a personal thing, so whatever I respond here risks upsetting someone or other. You only have to evidence that each time a new members joins and posts someone will congratulate on their's being the best choice of colour, whatever it is.

I can't speak for the US but some colours in the UK just seem to sell well, others not so. The best sellling Zeds are the silvers and greys along with black and perhaps blue (sure I will have missed one). Some colours like white, yellow and green just tend to be harder to move, although white is in some circles becoming the new 'in' colour. Perhaps a metallic as opposed to flat is also sought and some would consider a bright red too 'loud' in the UK.

That said I was not the only one in this thread to comment on the colour and beauty is in the eye of the beholder and many will adore it.

In general, launch colours do take a hit later on more so then the other colours. With Imola Red and Interlagos Blue being the launch colours, 8 out of 10 cars sold had one of those colours. It does not make them bad colours, but when you go to a dealer trying to trade in a car from which they already have 5 standing outside in the same colour makes it more difficult.

When I factory ordered mine, I could receive another £2k discount if I took an Interlagos blue as there were dozens and dozens on the boat already in various specs.
