For sale: Used E85 roof motor - Heavily reduced! £80

My roof recently stopped working so I ordered a new roof motor which I have spent the last 2 weeks replacing.

The reason for the problem was that the drain pipe was clogged and the motor housing was flooded. This caused the motor to stop working. In the process of replacing the motor I discovered that the old motor was still working fine after the housing was drained and it had dried out. Unfortunately BMW did not allow me to return the new unit so I put it into the car and am now sitting with a slightly corroded but still working roof motor.

The motor is out of a 03/2004 Z4. I will take some pictures of it shortly and connect it to a battery to show that it is in a perfectly fine working condition.

mmm interesting i still have my motor that was the same, its dried out must admit haven't thought about connecting it to a battery it was working when taken out i just had to help the roof open abit by hand but used to close no problem! how did you test it tim182 just connect to a battery and it makes a noise?

The first motor which they sold me was broken and I returned it. While waiting for a new one to arrive I reconnected the old one. I pressed the buttons just to see what happens and the motor fired up and the roof moved. But because BMW didn't allow me to return the new motor and because I didn't prime the old one sufficiently I had to remove the roof in any case and just put in the new one in.

Later on tested it by connecting to a battery as well.

when you connected to a battery i gather it just makes a noise did any fluid come out i don't want to take the roof out again to try it! but if its ok it might help a fellow member out looking to do this job on a budget

Depends on whether there is oil in the pump. You can however just press the bypass and none or not too much will come out.

To be honest i personally wouldnt buy a slightly corroded used roof motor with all the faff and expense of taking the roof off. -just my tuppence.
