For any claybar sceptics out there..

Spent 4 hours of my day off pampering the zed today.
Had a box of BiltHamber claybar sitting around for a year and finally decided to utilise it.
The difference is astounding to say the least. My paint was literally like sandpaper, even after a good wash. Now after a good claybar sesh its as smooth as silk!
Finished off with a slathering of HarleyWax.
Both products as regularly referred to and recommended on this forum.

People have tried to tell me clay barring is so old school and there are products out there that do the job better. They are so wrong, well worth the effort as part of a full decontamination. 8)

No convincing here!! I too discovered the wonders of clay some years ago. It really is astounding.
To anyone contemplating it though, please follow the regular guidelines - as with all good things in life - use plenty of lube!!!!

I do it as part of summer and winter prep, so once every six months.

Makes a huge difference at the end. I don’t get why people would want to spend lots of time sealing / waxing without proper prep.

I've had good results from the Gyeon Tar along with some Autoglym Tar remover stuff. Not convinced 100% though and pretty sure it's nothing more than turpentine.

Also tried a clay mitt thing.

Have bought another bar of clay for the next clean.

I bought some clay bars as everyone says they get such great results - I watched Youtube for instructions... It ended in disaster! I had blue streaks all over the bonnet, the clay kept sticking, no matter how much liquid/detergent I used... it hardly removed anything... Nope - Never again!!!!

Results were awful, it left marks all over the paintwork (scratches to the top coat) which I then had to DA out. As above...never again on the Z4, but great results on other colours. The Z4 paint on my car just seems so sensitive, just wiping your finger down it seems to mark it.

I have tried both, but still favour the clay mitt. Does an equally good job as the clay bar and I drop the mitt less frequently!

I have found that with our X6 I have to be a lot more careful than I do with our Z4.
The X6 is Azurite black and the Z4 is black sapphire. They must have the same lacquer though.
I think you can get a bit too cocky using claybar and not lube enough which can cause marks.
Just keep spraying with quick detailer and it seems to be fine.

I use a clay mitt which IMHO is slightly easier to use. Used it 4 or 5 times now and still giving good results after an initial wash and then wash again using Maguires Liquid Gold shampoo as the lube.
