Folding Exterior Mirrors Query

Well I picked up my new white z yesterday afternoon..........what a machine!!

But like all the best laid plans i hit a glitch, it's a really tight squeeze in the garage. The only way to get her in past the door is to manually to fold the mirrors in. Once she's past the door it should be fine (not tested the theory yet as i'm cleaning out the garage today as it's full of rubbish). I was wondering is it possible to retro fit the exterior mirrors on the z as this will be a pain once the magics worn off.

Sounds like an expensive retrofit - will need both mirrors and housings replaced together with the drivers door switch and wiring harness. Quick check of parts prices is approximately £300 + but without various wiring looms and off course that assumes the internal car wiring loom has the connections already in place i.e. plug and play. There are different parts listed depending on if you have the memory seats fitted or not..... unfortunately not such a simple job I think.

I would clean out the garage first then give it a try (very slowly) and see if the zed will go in without folding the mirrors. I've got a standard garage and looked at the Zeds measurements before I ordered to make sure it would fit. I did spec the retractible mirrors and very glad I did now as it just takes that risk away of smacking them but I reckon it would still go in with the mirrors folded out but only with a cm or two to spare. When I drive into the garage I tend to fold the mirrors in then once half way in fold them out so I can keep an eye on the rear arches so they don't catch the garage door frame. I've also got a car port so have to be careful of the supports but once you get used to the Zeds width parking becomes second nature.

The Z3 on the otherhand drives straight in :)

I imagine the retrofit can be done but as said it ain't going to be cheap. With me also having the Z3 when using it the Z4 had to fit in the garage otherwise it would have been something else.

I would give your dealer a bell :)

Tim.
