FM reception now poor

Hi,

Had my car into the garage last week to get the rear vents changed due to leaks. This required the rear number was removed.

Since then, my nav screen only shows 2 radio stations to scroll through. I'm going to unplug the battery tomorrow to see if it resets the fm bumper Ariel amplifier, but would it be fair to think it may have just not been connected back properly?

Is it normal to require a battery reset after removing the bumper?

The fm aerial is attached the the bumper carrier so should not have been touched when the bumper cover was removed.

I can't see why there would be a need to re-set but it's generally worth a try if the IT techs at work are to be believed

The signal diversity system constantly monitors reception and instantly switches between the main bumper aerial and the whip to maximise reception. Only the whip carries AM/FM and phone, the bumper is FM only but only switches to the whip aerial for FM if reception drops off. I'm not familiar with the Nav version of the radio display but it sounds like the bumper aerial is not properly re-connected as you suggest.

RealOEM shows the bumper aerial which might help to find a problem,

The aerial and it wires are pretty vulnerable dangling under the bumper carrier

Thanks, probably my terminology - I had assumed the bumper was the plastic bit - now learnt that bit is called the cover & therefore module isn't going to have been disconnected to remove bumper.

Will try the reset, if that fails then the chances of me proving 'it worked before I gave it to you' to a BMW specialist will be a challenge!

Excellent news, having now returned from a tiring week in the US on business, the niggle I had in my head has been resolved - car sorted itself out, guess it was just a gremlin.
