I had a flat tyre this morning on the M, took the car out of the drive to work and suddenly felt the front passager wheel wobbly, got down- its FLAT. flat tyre indicator didnt come on at all. IS it faulty? Not sure if i need to replace the tyre. worst start for the day. has anyone experienced this.

I have a feeling you have to be driving at a certain speed for a certain amount of time before it can detect a flat tyre, but it might depend on how old you car is as they changed the system in October 2006.
I think it works in a similar way to the runflat system which monitors the speed of each wheel and if one is turning faster then it means it's lost pressure.

With the ABS based monitoring system it just compares the variation in the speed of the tyres caused by deflation and hence a reduced circumferance. Not sure how quickly it does this but on the couple of times it has come on in my Zed (ABS monitored system) the pressure differential has been fairly small so guess it checks it continuosly and as soon as a difference is discovered sets of the sensor.
Suggest if it's not worked at all it can only be a defect in the system.

Hmmm.... mine came on very quickly when I had a slow puncture, didn't believe it at first.. so if yours hasn't come on and the tyre is near empty something must be wrong.
I'd have a good moan about that if it's still in manufacturers warranty, from a safety perspective.
Thing is - surely when anything like that is faulty, it's warning lights for no reason, not the opposite way around? :|
Maybe if yours is based on an in-tyre sensor it could just be faulty, but if it's a rotational abs sensor i dont get it.
