Fixed window regulator - now water ingress

Cable snapped on window 2 weeks ago so ordered cable repair kit and fitted it. When reapplying the insulation to the existing butyl tape, I tried to be as careful as possible ensuring there were no gaps in the butyl tape.


However, I noticed a few days ago water was ingressing into the passenger footwell. Opened up the door this morning to locate the problem and after spraying some water on the window, noticed water was escaping towards the bottom as shown below.


However, this is where I'm confused. Surely if I seal the butyl tape properly in this area, the water will just gather internally or soak into the insulation. I've also noticed that its dripping down onto the window motor and wiring as shown below, this cant be right, can it? Photo doesn't do the amount of water dripping onto it justice. Any ideas are very welcome?

What you call insulation is in fact a waterproof membrane, although it does of course insulate as a secondary function

Water should indeed run down the inside of the window, drop to the bottom of the door and out. If the membrane is damaged or not sealed 100% it comes inside the door and onto the carpet.

Check the wiper seal on the outside of the door/glass is in good condition and a reasonable fit, but accept that water will get between it and the glass.

Thanks cj. If the water drops to the bottom of the door, would you expect it to trickle onto the motor and wiring? Maybe when I fitted the glass back in, I inadvertently put it back differently causing water to aim towards the motor- just a guess!

I would not expect it to be on the motor, but wonder how savage you were with the hose?

I did find water going on top of a door speaker, so made a rainshield from foil type sound deadening material, to stop it dripping on it. Bit OCD but I had the card off and material to hand.

Didn't use a hose, used a spray bottle so it was fairly light. I think I'll just have play around with the glass as I must have somehow moved some of the rubber or something when putting the glass back in.
