Fitting TomTom

Afternoon all,

We're new to the forum, just bought a 59 plate Z4 without the nav system. The dealer said if we send off the base unit for our current satnav he'd get it hardwired in.
Anyone else done this? We have a TomTom Go Live 1000 series but the flat base unit has a USB connector, not sure if this is what he wants (not sure if he does) or not or how this would work.

Any help appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Kerry,

First I've heard of this for the Tom Tom sat nav, I know BMW do a retro fit for their own Sat Nav which is basically the Garmin Nuvi which involves replacing the lidded storage bin ontop of the dash so I would image this is what the dealer is on about. Its whether you wish to lose that storage.

I have the Garmin Nuvi but I simply mount the unit on the air vent with a clip on bracket.

Tim.

There is a guy on E89 forum who's done this.....

JDM had it the Garmin fitted as a dealer fit accessory, don't believe he was that impressed tbh

Edit and hello and welcome

I know with the 1 series you can just purchase the tray that replaces the storage box and some people have mounted their TomTom mounts onto that in a similar fashion to the Garmin unit.

Or, he might mean he will route the power lead behind the trim and hardwire that, and leave the suction mount on the windscreen.
