Fitting New BMW Front Emblem Badge to E86

Have been searching on here and google for a guide to fitting New BMW Front Emblem Badge to E86 but no definitive answer or 'how to'.

Appears different methods are used on various BMW models.

Have bought a badge from BMW High Wycombe and they had NO idea how to fit it, even asking their mechanics.

Badge has two long tapered pins on back and one short locating pin. From what I can make out it is held on by two self threading nuts.

I'm not sure of the best way to get at it, through the grill or removed some of the plastic above radiator.

Any advice much appreciated and I will make into a how to with pictures to summarise at end.

Pull one of your kidney grills out and you can get behind the BMW badge

How to fit new badge/emblem to E86:

Step 1: Order Part No.

Badge: 51147044207
(If required) Self Tapping Nuts x2: 51418176418


Step 2: Remove either kidney grill

Hold grill bars with two hands and lift upwards, then pull bottom of grill out to remove. May require slight yank, but does not require excessive force.

Step 3: Remove existing badge

Using 10mm deep socket and ratchet undo x2 self tapping nuts. Keep if reusing.

Step 4: Remove badge and clean underneath

Step 5: Mount new badge

Assembly is reverse. Self taping nuts will cut a thread into tapered bosses on rear of badge.
Kidney grill mounts back in and should clip neatly back all round.


Notes: in removing one of the self tapping nuts it just started spinning, so I had to snap off the tapered boss on the back of the badge using pliers. I was able to reuse the existing nuts, they were just a little corroded.
