First wash of the Z4 and I find...

It was fairly dusty both times I had seen it prior to buying so it blended in well. It was only when I was on my hands and knees washing it for the first time that I noticed it. Needless to say I was disappointed. I guess I'll have to see what a body shop will charge to fix that IN ADDITION TO SOMEONE ADDING A FRONT LICENSE PLATE BRACKET TO THE FRONT BUMPER WITH F*&#ING SCREWS! Right through the front bumper! Front plates are only mandatory in some states (Illinois - the state i bought it in being one of them) but isn't required here. I never even gave it a thought as anyone with any common sense wouldn't put what basically amounts to wood screws THROUGH A FRONT BUMPER! DOUBLE SIDED STICKY TAPE!! FFS!

So for now I have a blank front plate holder as seen here:

And some scrapes on the rear wheel arch...

Between that and the punctured tyre I've not had a great first weekend with the Z.

on the plus side not having to have a front number plate makes the front of the car so smoooth

Chin up - all fixable, and everyone misses something when they buy a car... I keep finding scratches and marks on mine (though some are new and I can't work out how it is getting them :? ), the edges of the front bumper are stone dent city, one of my wings is ever so slightly out because of previous accident damage repair... An accident that must have involved spinning off a road because a few weeks after buying the car I realised it had no undertray protecting the engine compartment... And a cracked 3rd brake light.

However none of that has stopped me loving the car, and to be fair I am learning loads about how to look after a vehicle properly by figuring out how to fix things. Sorely tempted by a full re-spray though... :D

You always miss a few things when buying a car. Easily fixed.

Go for a long roof down drive. Guaranteed to get a smile back on your face :)

If it makes you feel any better a mate of mine picked up a brand new land rover evoque at the weekend and sometime yesterday someone has put a 10" dent in the drivers rear quarter. Creased at both ends too....

Or it would if there weren't 4 ragged holes in it! :D

So for now I'd rather sport a blank plate holder than 4 screw holes. OH! AND someone bumped the holder against something so the front bumper has a crease on one side from the pressure put on it by the edge of the holder!

Thanks for the support guys! It doesn't wreck my love for the car though. It's just irritating. I did, after all, buy this for a daily driver so it will get its share of wear. Just kind of disappointing is all since I thought I got a particularly good deal on a mint car. ESPECIALLY the front bumper thing. It was a lease in it's previous life, too... So I don't know who would have added the front plate in such a careless way. Maryland (its original home) is also a front-plate-requiring state so I would assume it would have been attached at the BMW dealer before sale? But what dealer would do such a thing!? :headbang:

Over here - I think the resounding response will be 'the majority', and if it started life as a lease what would the lease company care ? I am very jealous that eventually you'll have it nice and smooth - over here you're likely to get pulled over and fined for not having one

Here's what the bastards did to the front bumper! This can't be BMW's official way of adding a front plate, can it? (Notice the "dent" from the frame's impact with the bumper on the right)

I guess I assumed they leased directly from BMW. Perhaps not.

It's actually MORE expensive to get a second plate for the front of the car here! lol

Yep, the front bumper mount over here is mounted to the front bumper by 5 self-tapping screws - just in the process of ordering one and having it attached....

May go for repair of the holes and sticky pad options instead - front bumper needs a respray anyway :)

Yep my plate holder was rivetted o my bumper with no less then 5 rivets.

Use it as an excuse to get an M front fitted :D

I wish I could go without a front plate. My friend has done for at least 12 months, but I bet if I do it i'll be pulled up straight away lol

I agree with Aquazi, upgrade to the M bumper. the scratches are annoying tho, but you gotta budget around 2K to make a second hand car yours IMO
