First Genertion Audi TT is the ugliest car ever designed!

The car is one colour - just the light when the picture was taken. Are you comparing the door with the back end?

I was, yes.

The original TT is and always will be a design classic and a piece of art :x

Yes it's looks are challenging but the best designs are.

Totally agree with the comments about it being a great design - think it's a great looking car, but a shame about the way it (apparently) drives. If I wasn't fussed about an out-and-out driver's car then I'd consider one.

Great design?!? Its a Blob. Seriously, I learned how to draw cars like that when I was four years old cause lumps were aesy to draw. Its a moving speed bump. I'm short fat and bald too but I want to get into better shape, I guess that makes me a timesless classic design as well. People keep saying the picture off wikipedia is the problem but they were just as shapeless and ugly on the street in real life. I just shake my head everytime I see one. I realize to each his own but who looks at Oliver Hardy and thinks, "Thats what I want to look like. And my car too."

I used to own a TT Mk1 and while I agree the design has moved on since then, this design is 10 years old now. At the time it was ground-breaking.

As for how it drives, I wouldn't knock it too much. It is too heavy, yes, but it felt a LOT more solid on the road than the non-M Z4, and it didn't tramline one bit. The steering felt better and the quattro worked well. In terms of general driving it felt better than the Z4, although if you want to cane it and throw it sideways round corners then the Z4 wins every time.

I think the TT is a great design still looks good imho i loved mine just lacked a bit of power even though it was the 225 model :driving:

The TT looks great (I had 2 of them before getting back to an M3). The first must have been chipped, because the second (new) car just never had the go the car deserved. I soon realised that TT stood for Totally Tedious.

The old TT looks, IMO, better than the new which is far too angular and could be any Audi from the front. The old shape still makes me think about what could have been had Audi given the car a decent engine and handling.

The interior, which as a driver is what you really see, is a classic design and one to which the Z4 has never got close.

Remember a bunch of us are in America, where Oliver Hardy would be greeted with "Hey, Slim, how's it going?" ;) But following your analogy, would you rather resemble a 911 turbo, short, with wide hips and a heavy rear end? An Alfa Romeo, with long nose and hump back? We may swap adjectives between the two, but the human body and car design aren't the same.

When discussing car design, like any other art form, some education helps. Knowing what influenced Freeman Thomas and what he was trying to evoke, gives a better sense of how well he did. You mention childhood scribbles - similar concept; if often helps decipher the picture if you know what they were trying to draw.

It looks dated now but at the time it was a concept car straight into production. There was a massive waiting list and cars were swapping above list price for ages. The UK was/is one of the biggest TT markets and they have been such a common sight now for so long that they have aged a lot.

I still quite like the Mk2 as well, although not the roadster, just the coupe. TT RS has the power to back it up too.
