Been working away at my stereo upgrade for a few months know, as and when money allows :D

My car came with the business head unit, so was OK but nothing spectacular, but being someone that is a music nut, I enjoy upgrading stereos to something I want, so have know fitted the following.

2 Audison power amps (1 for front and 1 for rear speakers)
Alpine powered sub bass (fitted behind passenger seat)
1 set of hertz 163 component speakers (2 x 165 woofers in footwell, 2 x 75 mid range in doors, 2 x tweeters in door pillars)
2 x hertz 75 midrange to rears
1 JL cleansweep ( to iron out sound limitations to head unit, that are factory set to accomodate thier speakers)
Dension 300 for IPOD

The sound is fantastic  very punchy, very clean and if wanted very loud :D

Will probably hasten my deafness and tinnitus,

And havent dared add up what it has cost, as I am sure it would never pass my wifes "waste of money" test.

NIce one, I like a nice audio set up.

What do you think of the clean sweep?

Any pictures?

The cleansweep is brilliant, I was a bit dubious about something that converts analogue to digital and replaces the "missing" bits, but it works well, helps I had a bit of luck with it, as a mate of mine had bought it for his car and then was told his job meant him moving to Hong Kong for two years, so he sold it to me for £80  still boxed.

I will try and get some pics this weekend and post them.

Is the cleansweep just an automatic EQ?

No it does more than that,

Have a look at this review, it will explain it better than I can

The difference between the one shown and mine, is I can still use my mfsw to control the volume

the 163's are a great set. must sound great!

i was going to go for the hsk165's but ended up going with rainbow germaniums. started running the wiring last weekend so hopefully i will have mine done soon too!

All that to listen to "The Archers" on Radio 4 huh? :poke:

Just kidding. Appears to be an outstanding upgrade. I'm looking forward to the pics as well.

ironically, (ducks under desk before he say`s this) I love the Archers, never miss an episode

Anyone know if it's possible to have the official hi-fi system installed after-market ? Cost ?

Thanks

Also - pics please !

I will post some pics this weekend,

Biffa, I believe you can retro fit the BMW Hi FI system, but I believe it is quite expensive, and (please dont take offence anyone) you still only have the BMW Philips speakers, which to say the least are very restrictive, if you are going to pay out, go for after market, and it will work out cheaper and better.

A power amp, a small sub base (powered) and a set of 3 way component speakers (just for the front set, rears standard as fills) will sound awesome. Something to bear in mind if you have the standard system at the moment, the front door speaker grills are just blanks, so if you have a 3 way system, thats the place to put the midrange ones.

Update on this thread please!!!

T-bone - Welcome to the forum.

Wouldn't it be a little more polite on your first post after 8 months as a member to introduce yourself, or do something more than just dive onto a thread and ask for an update?? Are you a Zed owner, etc.

LOL - fair enough - I did say please though!

I'll create a thread in newbies to introduce myself properly and keep this thread on track.
