Finally bought one

Went to Best Buy yesterday and got a Nuvi 200. I know it's not their most updated one, but I wasn't interested in Bluetooth, maps of the entire world, MP3 compatibility or being able to change the little icon from a car to a truck so it works just fine. Nice and basic with late 2007 updates, which is all I really care about. Jeez what a God send these things are. No more PITA Rand McNally's or screwed-up Map quest directions. The Garmins are so easy to use, especially for those of use who are technically-challenged  .

Thanks for everyone's input on my post regarding sat nav's about ummm...3 months ago :? . I can't wait to use it on my next GTG :trampoline:

I am looking at one as well, but understand that the 200 does not give directions as to the names of the roads and such. It says things like turn left in 300 feet instead of turn left onto Main Street. Is that not so? I need all the help I can get and if it is not specific I may take a left turn into the ocean or something unless it spells it out for me.

If I am wrong I may go get one this afternoon at the price they have been offered recently.

By the way there have been a lot of stories here about thugs stealing them out of your car. They look for the round suction cup mark and if they see one, they smash a window, smash the glove compartment or pry open the trunk looking for one.

So take appropriate measures to remove any residual suction cup marks. :driving:

Good point about theft and I was warned vehemently about this as well from the sales staff. I'll keep a small stash of those windex wipes in a plastic bag to wipe off residue if I see any.

You're right about the 200 not verbalizing the street name. My dad has a 750 and the damn thing practically wipes your butt! I don't find the fact that the street name is not verbalized to be inconvenient at all. The screen is quite large and I just glance at it if I want to know the name of the road. A more updated model is going to have just as accurate information regarding how many feet left to make your turn etc., but I can see how it's just one more thing to make your life a little easier. Go with the 250, they do tell you the name of the road and are only about 50 extra dollars. I paid 250 for mine, used it yesterday and was perfectly happy with it

Wow! Lucky you. Me and ovrkll were talking yesterday about how the prices for Nuvi's have refused to go down here. At that price, it's a steal.

They don't have a a/c vent mount or something for them? Also, does your insurance not cover break in and theft of the unit? I specifically asked. USAA covers that, however my Dad's insurance does not cover those little buggers. I can't recall who he's with.

I never shop at Best Buy anymore. Shopping at Best Buy pretty much guarantees you're paying a premium for the same products that you can otherwise buy online. And you can definitely still buy stuff online from reputable, reliable sources. The only times I go to Best Buy is to check out things in person before I order them online.

Nuvi 200

Dell - $179 (no taxes in some states)
Amazon - $153 plus free shipping. No taxes unless your in WA.

Amazon has great prices - unless you live in Washington. Sometimes I think I want to go get a PO box over in Portland just for shopping at Amazon.
