Finally after 6 months...

Hi all,


From a previous post I thought I would give you an update.

I had been looking for a 3.0 since May and had been to see quite a few test drove a manual and auto and decided I would prefer the auto. Most of the cars I had seen were let's say over exaggerated by their sellers for the price they were asking and so I walked away or got on the bus...

I spotted nicks&sandras z4 on pistonheads. We passed a few emails back and forward and eventually came to an agreement on the price. The deal fell through as nick I guess loved his car too much on reflection to sell. Long story short nick eventually committed to the sale as you've read about earlier in this thread but only after pulling out 3 more times.

The car is gorgeous and runs great and is very well spec'd. It has only covered 31k with full history.

It came with a spare set of ellipsoids (just refurbished), spare rear and side clear indicators, full set of spare coil packs, wheel centre badges, new discs, pads, fluid change, nearly new falken 453s and a few other bits and pieces.

Everything said I did pay top dollar for the car but if you factor in the spares and the provenance of the car itself I'm more than happy with the deal.

May to November looking for a Z... a bit of a record for me looking for a car but worth the wait.

Nick is a really decent guy if not a bit indecisive (but if you know the car you'll know why)... But then we all are sometimes... Right!!! Maybe I should sell for 12k :wink:

Fair play Jack for sticking with it & getting what you wanted at a price you are obviously happy with .
It's more than i would have paid for any Z4 of that age regardless of spec , condition or mileage but that doesn't mean to say it wasn't worth what you paid
Forget the figures now & enjoy the car like the rest of us do ours regardless of price,horsepower or extras

There was a bit of banter about this car, at the end of the day it's worth what somebody is prepared to pay.
It's your money and your business you pays your money you make your choice

I never mentioned what I had paid for it... That's not me. What I will say is the extras I got in the deal plus what had been done to the car prior to me buying it the final price would have been well under 7k. Now factoring in the spec and mileage I think it was a pretty good deal.
That said your quite right it is horses for courses!

Well done to you for choosing to go for a Zed with the qualities that you feel are important. You so obviously feel this Zed is the one for you and are prepared to pay what you feel is a fair price for it. I tell folk I looked for 8 months before I found the 3.0si which was right for me but mine was all about a price point and a warranty which I found eventually but it took patience.

Looks like you have found the right Zed for you - congratulations - there are many forumites that have spent a great deal on modifying their Zeds and probably have paid out far more to get to where they want to be with their Zeds!

Hope to meet up with you on the forum runs some time.

Landscapes are awesome, never sick of Z photos. There are so many on here it's not possible to have seen them all

I remember many years ago in a past life when I was secretary of an MG Club, this was pre internet and forum days. Hell, a 3mb computer took up three storeys of a tower block back then, Someone who wanted to sell his MGB turned up one club night unannounced. He did the usual poncing about the bar, asking anyone who would listen to his long list of specs, how much it was worth. Eventually someone pointed him in the direction of John. John was an old mechanic who ran his own repair restoration business, he was good but, "Erudite" would be a good way to describe John where cars were concenred. The fella in question rudely interrupted John and I whilst we were engrosed in conversation about the quality of the new guest beer on tap at the bar. He posed his question, to which John listened patiently, then when he was finished replied to the fella, "Aye Lad, it'll be wurth whatever some bugger wants to give yer forrit on th'day thee wants ter sell it".

Stuck with me for years did that

Enjoy the car & the forum for the info and banter, hearing people's long searches for the right car always make me feel guilty as I bought the very first zed I saw (did a lot of looking on autotrader though) I also did exactly the same with my elise-vindicated by the fact I sold it for more than the purchase price over 2 years later :wink:

Wow! 3 years that is good going!
That's defiantly the longest I've heard waiting for the right Z never mind any other marque!! Even my Carreras 4s I found within the first 4 months. :-o :-o

Dewi, my old man used to write articles for the MG Owners Club magazine (he had a midget) and my first car was a '79 MGB GT. Drunk a litre of oil every thousand miles and the tape deck would only play one tape in the 3 years I owned it, but was a great way to start my driving life. Next car was an Escort - it was sh*t.

My first sports car was a 68' Midget - red with chrome bumpers and wire wheels 1275cc engine - great little car . Also had a 68' BGT -also red with chrome bumpers and wire wheels - had it virtually restored because of the usual tin worm - 1800cc engine that at the time was quite fast - enormous leg room - was the only car I have ever had that I had to push the seat forward by one notch to reach the pedals Wish I had kept some photos but in those days there were no digital cameras - not sure what I had done with my box brownie !
