Faulty steering angle sensor E86?

Si I'm no expert (far from it) but I recently changed tyres from Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2's to Nokian WR winter tyres. The Nokian's seem to have a taller profile and the net effect on my E86 was that it became undrivable above 60 mph. I knew the tracking was out & there was some oscillation on the AS2's - but it was safe. With the Nokian's the steering wheel oscillated badly over 60 and felt very light & i had no idea where the front wheels were pointing - very unnerving. A wheel alignment + follow up alignment did sort the problem almost completely (big up to Bush Tyres in Beverley for a hell of a lot of hard work). Oscillation still there around 60+ but it's only slight now. Apparently I have some wear on the left front strut top which needs attention too - this may also be having some effect, not sure.

Cheers! I'm running brand new AS2's also. I'm going to change the front struts in the summer, so will change the tops at same time. Might try experimenting with toe angles, see if it has any effect. Might also get the front run flats re fitted, just to rule them out, as i don't remember the problem being as bad before. I've kept them and they're in good condition.

Forgot to ask, what size are they ?

The Nokians are 245/40 R18 all round.

Hey just thought I would update you guys on my car. As previously mentioned I have had the steering 'wobble' for some time now along with a few rattles when going over bumps or uneven ground. Recently had the RTAB replaced with powerflex ones and the rear shock top mounts for poweerflex. Also replaced the front shock top mounts with Meyle HD ones. My mechanic wasn't very impressed with the Melye top mounts stating that he thought the OEM design was better and that the OEM quality was better but since they were what I had already bought he fitted them.

Took my zed down to AK Automotives for a hunter alignment on monday and the very helpful guys down there set it up as OEM spec for road use. The wobble is massively improved, it has all but gone and when it is there it is barely noticable now. Im not sure what exactly has fixed this but I would guess that the RTAB and a good alignment is the cure as a number of people IIRC have indicated that replacing the RTAB solved it for them too. When I was getting the alignment done I asked about resetting the SAS so he plugged in his diagnostic computer but the SAS was reading 0 with the wheel set at the centre position.

Just in regard to your mention of changing to 17inch winter wheels I had the wobble with both my 18inch Vredestein summer tyres and my 17inch Nokian winter tyres.

Unfortunately I still have a rather annoying and loud rattle when driving over loose ground that both my normal indy and the aligment garage couldn't easily identify :thumbsdown:
