Faulty parking sensors? Look here!!

I have no idea how well known this is. As far as I know this could be common knowledge on here but I thought id share this just in case. My cars parking sensors weren't working when I bought it. I thought it may be something to do with the crash but even though they aren't necessary on a z4 roadster my car has them so want them to work. I did a bit of research on't t'internet and came accross a really quick and easy way to find out if its a single sensor that's died.

All you do is turn the ignition on and put the car in reverse, go to the back of the car and put your ear to each sensor. If they're working the should be making a ticking noise. The one/ones that are faulty will be silent.

I thought sods law will dictate that this test won't work but it did. 3 of the sensors were ticking and one wasn't so I've just ordered a new sensor off ebay for 15 quid so will report on the results. If all is well I will write up a full guide from start to finish from diagnosing the problem to painting your sensor and fitting it.

I may be jumping the gun a bit here as it aint fixed yet but it's looking promising so if your car gives one long beep when you put it in reverse then here is a quick and easy way for you to find out whats wrong.

hope this helps somebody, any questions just ask :)

It's such a quick and easy tip but if you don't know about it there's no use! Just hope it works when my new sensor comes :)

Good post and I'll be interested to see how you get on with the fitting and how it looks after painting.

Thanks yeah I'll be painting it with a spray gun but something as small as this wouldn't be noticeable if you did it at home with a can so I'll put step by step instructions up so it will cost 25 quid painted rather than over a hundred painted from bmw.
