Back to OE exhaust, new front discs and pads, full set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports, cruise control fitted and full check over (specialist says it does not need an extra service and oil recently changed) before a Euro trip and fresh MOT (no advisories) - last job for now - a 4 wheel alignment . . .
Delighted that my tyre fitter suggested I try 'Revolution' at Gateshead for the full Hunter alignment and print out. Have used AK Automotive in the past and will use them again (MX5 racing outfit who set up my 3.0si beautifully after asking what I was looking for - so I will be back) but I was looking to check where the M was and return to standard settings before making any changes.
I was very impressed when I arrived, always encouraging to see interesting cars in the car park. It was like visiting a set from the Fast and Furious film - very clean and modern with suspension, wheels and performance parts all on smart display
Staff in company shorts and sports shirts (are they called technicians now not mechanics?). My booking time was 11am and I went out to meet Andy and his clipboard in the car park. Talked through the car and what I was looking for and he then talked through in detail the process. He drove the M into the workshops and I was offered tea or coffee and shown to a large picture window with views of all work being done and a large screen which relayed the computer screen images from the Hunter setup - all very impressive.
Technician came out to discuss the findings and suggest what was needed. He highlighted what he thought was causing a slight pull to the left and asked if I was experiencing a slight oscillation under heavy acceleration? - yes but I'd always put this down to the M diff - he suggested what might be causing this and that he might be able to dial some of this out with the required adjustments.
Cost was per adjustment - a colour computer print out of 'before' and 'after' was provided with the bill and all in I paid just over £80 including VAT. Process took a relaxed hour. (Paid £75 at AK Automotive some time ago - 45 mins).
I've a hoon this weekend in the Borders so I'll get a good idea of how the M feels now and what changes I'll want after that. . .
we shall see
