Fan on full blast even on cold start

Had a bit of a scary one this morning,

Was driving to work in my 35i, wasn't hooning it as traffic is a nightmare and had a engine temperature light come on, I dismissed it as a glitch and continued driving as normal for 2 minutes or so. Not long after the same error popped up and I started to experience really sluggish response from the accelerator - very unusual as this has never happened before, no matter how much I pressed the throttle down I was getting very little power so pulled over. I waited about twenty minutes and started her back up again, found the fan was spinning at full power until I got to work. Left the car sat for about an hour and a half, started it back up again and the fan was still spinning on full. Did some googling and some forums suggest water pump is on its way out.

Any ideas?

Mitch.

My 3.0si displayed the same fan symptoms & it was the electronic water pump fubared :o
Get it checked before roasting your engine, how many miles has your car covered?

63,000

Water pump was what I feared to be honest.

Don’t take it to bmw, oe pumps can be sourced for half the price online & a decent garage will fit without having to remortgage.
Get the codes read first

If only I had a house to remortgage only 21 calm down!! Had a trusted local garage come collect it today so fingers crossed it is just a blippy sensor

BMW don't make the pumps of course, Pierburg do. £200 on Ebay or Amazon...take your pick. Identical in every way to the OEM bar the sticker.

Fitting shouldn't be more than 2hrs, although I'm not that familiar on an E89 if other things are in the way... doubt it though.
