Fallen in love again......

I've recently hopped back into the wifes Z4 as she is due to give birth to our 1st kid in 3 weeks and reckons its too hard to get into!!! The bad news is that she has my E90 335d that goes like a rocket ship but the good news is that I forgot how much I love the Z4!! Its a 2003 3.0i SE with 88k in black and its a completely different animal to the 3er......
I've already done some shopping as I am in it for the foreseeable, I ordered today

Cruise Control Stalk - I think this is pretty simple for the 2003 but I'll prob get A1BMW to do it!!
Black kidney Grills - I'll try this
Clear side repeaters - A1BMW!!
Cup holders - A1BMW to fit!
ZHP gear knob - Surely so probs for me to fit!!??
ultra thick mats

I want to do more but don't want to go too mad as I'd better save some cash for the kid! Plus I'm feeling a bit r@ped after having to get 18" RFT winters for the 335!!!!!

Any suggestions?

I was thinking maybe the Facelift headlights with clear rears but looks damned expensive? Where is best to get them?

I also have to get it in to A1BMW for the knocking noise from the diff area but they think it is a couple of bushes so better than the £1000 I got quoted from another indy the robbing b&^&rds!!!!

Oh yeh, thinking about the M Sport MF wheel but do I just buy and have the airbag swapped over? Looks pretty expensive now compared to posts I read last year!!??

Facelift light on the front will be tricky. You'll need the bumper liner on the rear from the facelift version too.
The rest sounds simple.

Oh - surely the 335d isn't as quick as a 3.0i zed? Might feel quicker with all that torque? What do you think?

Definitely go for the MFSW. It's one of the best upgrades from the standard IMO. Easy swap of airbag module. just clips straight back on. Just make sure you have the correct wiring for radio MFness. My old 2005 didnt have it and needed to be installed. Overall though, well worth £250 from Joe and Sopers.

Cheers, I naively thought I could just get some new lights and strap em on!! I am a bit new when it comes to modding though.
As for the 335d, i certainly think the 335d is quicker but may be wrong. It gets to 60 sub 6 secs i think and pulls as strongly until you get to prison speeds!! However, i seem to recall the Z is around 6 as well? anyone know for sure??
Its just such a different drive. My 335d is auto as well so its just plant and go. In the Z I am really enjoying the massively different driving experience of revving through the gears with the manual box. And the noise....oh the noise.....!!

PS Ive heard I can go from 282 to 330BHP from the 335d with a remap, whats available with the Z?

Also Adamski, RE The lights, i realise now that the facelift ones require more work than I am willing to do/have done but is there any improved ones that i can just "bolt on"?

I can well imagine the 335 feels quicker. For one thing it has an extra 280 Nm of torque! And secondly it's bound to feel quicker in something the size of a tank

Well I shut my mouth then! The Z is definately quicker when it comes to any kind of bend thats for sure!!! I will have to take both to an airstrip with a trusting friend and see whats occuring!!! What BHP is the 3.0i Z4 out of interest?

I cant believe the wife has a faster car than mine, must start checking autotrader for high mileage E91 M3 or Lexus ISF..... Or go proper tank and look at 2006 M5.....

I think I was actually more in agreement with you than trying to prove the point otherwise!

Just taking this info from Parkers, but according to them the Z4 produces 231 bhp, the 335d 281bhp - I imagine the latter can very easily remapped to 300+ though...

the mods you have planned are all easy diy jobs. Honestly most can be done in 10 minutes, dont pay for someone else to do any of these!

...or stick with a Z and get a 300bhp Alpina Roadster S 0-60 book value is 5.1s, but tests have regularly proven sub-5sec times. Alpina always quote less book bhp (measured much higher than 300bhp on rolling road tests) and 0-60 times so as not to upset the M-section at BMW. That will blow the 335d into the weeds as the Alpina will also out-handle it by miles...the 6-pot diesel screws the handling balance on the E9x.

You also get all the toys....Xenons, cruise, Nav, extended leather, hardtop prep, heated elec seats, etc etc, plus a 3.4l straight 6 that will easily give >30mpg without being gentle on her The noise will make your spine tingle .....

Re: the headlights, depends what you currently have fitted. If you have the candlesque Halogens then they are plug and play (once you have removed the bumper), the Xenons on the other hand.

Certainly wouldn't pay anyone to change to the side or rear lights.
Do you mean all black grills? if so
MFSW price has gone through the roof over the last 12 months, Quarry Motors where recently advertising a coupe they were breaking who knows you might get lucky, still one of the best mods I have carried out.
