Falken FK452's - Load & Speed Rating

Hi,

Can any of you Falken 452 owners advise if these are the ones you have fitted?

I'm looking at Camskill as recommended by a number of forum members, and they have the following (no choice, just 1 type in this szie):

FALKEN FK 452 - 225/40R18 92Y XL TL
FALKEN FK 452 - 255/35R18 94Y XL TL

I notice that they are the XL tyres with higher load, and speed rating than the OE Bridgstones (detailed below).

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A - 225/40/18 88 W
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A - 255/35/18 90 W

I've phoned around some local garages and was offered an 88W for the front, so I guess they do exist. I just don'w want to make a mistake and get the wrong ones as I'm likely to by myself and then arrange fitting, current about £80-100 cheaper this way.

Thanks in advance...

When I moved from run flats, my ZZ5 Avons were a higher load rating. I was assured that this was ok by the tyre fitter. According to ATS Euromaster, provided you don't move to a lower load rating they should be ok for your car.

Just as a note here, Falken 452s are very cheap with the AA 'fit at home' service at the moment...

I'm looking to replace the RFTs on my Z with Falken 452s or Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas as per everyone else, but this makes the Falkens really cheap fully fitted at £486.

If anyone has a promotional code, it could be even cheaper!

255/35ZR18 94Y FALKEN FK452 XL

Sub Total £506.30

Prefer the sound of the Vreds, but that seems really cheap for 4 new tyres, stagged setup, fully fitted and balanced, at home by the AA?
I've been quoted £370 for a set from Camskill, but that is tyres only, no delivery/fitment etc.

Now, if only I can get the Vreds at that price - so few places stock them in both wheel sizes...
Si

(no affinity with the AA, in fact, I use GreenFlag as my breakdown cover)

I ordered those tyres from camskill yesterday to the tune or £380 (with delivery)

And I'm getting them fitted and balanced Tuesday by kwikfit for about £50,

It's by far the cheapest way of getting it done I've found, I tried a few local places and they wanted at least another £50 and one place quoted £500 for the lot!

Hmmm, thanks Aj - didn't know you could get fitting/balancing done so cheaply at Kwik-Fit. Still have reservations about them from other forum member's experiences, but £50 IS cheap for that.

Do the AA Have the equipment though to safely remove the Run Flats without damaging the wheels?

I am surprised you got Kwik Fit to offer to fit them at all?! I tried my local Kwik Fit the last time I bought some tyres. They told me that they would only fit tyres supplied by them for insurance/legal/liability (blah blah blah) reasons...

just had the front tyres replaced on company car at sutton coldfield branch of kwik fit didnt tell me the machine damaged the polished spokes of 1 wheel .took back a few days later.looks like they have got to change the alloy as cant repair.dont trust them now ( beware ) :x

Just what I was wondering.

From their FAQ

I have expensive alloy wheels. Can you replace my tyres without damaging my alloy wheels ?

Absolutely. We use Hofmann tyre fitting machines and wheel balancers in our mobile tyre fitting vehicles. The tyre fitting machine is a high quality piece of equipment and is capable of replacing tyres up to 26" including run flat tyres, 4x4 tyres and low profile tyres.

Our mobile car tyre fitting vehicles are all equipped with Hofmann Electronic Wheel Balancers to ensure that when we replace your tyres we can also balance the wheel to make sure there is no vibration or shudder when the vehicle travels at increased speed. All our balancers are capable of balancing wheels including steel rims, alloy rims and centre less rims found on some Citroen, Renault and Peugeot cars.

Where possible our tyre fitters will balance your alloy wheels without the balance weights being visible on the outside of the wheel.

Event/AA don't cover my area, but I've used a locally-based mobile fitter before and he didn't leave a mark on my 108's when removing/fitting runflats.

I'm getting 2 rears supplied by a local place I trust (local modified/chav shop so I KNOW they won't damage nice alloys!) and they're matching the Camskill price plus fitting.

Just a follow up to this, checked with my local 'tyres' place - Sheen Tyres in Sheen, SW London - they will fit etc 4x Falkens for £480 while I wander round the shops with madam.

Decided to just go for these as I don't do enough miles to warrant a more-expensive tyre.

Now to try and sell-off the RF bBridgestones... ;)
Si

(No affiliation with local place, just a good deal from my view as no work needed and local)
