faint smell of burnt plastic

Anybody ever notice a faint smell of burnt plastic coming from a Z4? We've had the car on a lift to look for plastic bag stuck in the frame/exhaust, no luck there. Mechanic can not find anything wrong with the car, (didn't smell the day we took it in, of course). And it only happens every now & again. It is my wife's car & she says she smells it when braking & it has been raining or the road is wet. I have smelled it before when it was not raining out, so this has both of us stumped. Any body had a similiar experience?

I have had this problem too, took it in and they reckon the oil cap seal was leaking slightly and sometimes causing a very minor leak which is causing the smell...they have changed mine just today...so I'll see if it actually is that in due course!
 
It'll be the smell of your brake pads over heating. Various things can cause them to overheat. I would check your braking system. If you want to do a test for the smell then do hard and high speed braking. I don't recommend doing this too much however because overheating your discs too much will warp them. Work out whether the smell happens when you drive spiritedly.
