Facelift sound generator

Got a quick question about the sound generator on 3.0si. I have managed to pull the pipe out of the bulkhead and removed a bit of foam. Is there another bit of foam at the other end of the pipe? I took the metal clip off but still couldnt remove the other end of the pipe that goes into the airbox. Will see how it sounds with just one piece removed.

Certainly the prefacelift contains 2 pieces of different lengths and dimensions.

I understand that trimming of one is better as the noise is way too intense otherwise.

BTW - I though you were cured of any mods and remaining totally stock

Thanks - often wondered but never removed it.

Reading the research, BMW spent months in audio labs and with focus groups creating a balanced sound that was designed to be rich and representative of a BMW sports car, but not too loud or intrusive, so I guess change of exhausts or pulling foam out is likely to make quick but probably unexpected results.

I took the foam out of the pipe at the forward end (the end with the metal clip) and I think the 3.0 coupe sounds much better at higher revs.

I find myself going much faster now just so I can listen to the engine. My 8 year old thinks it's a racing car. He's more mature than me.

I went one step further with my Si and removed the sound generator hose and diaphragm assembly entirely and blocked off the openings. This is not to say that I don't appreciate an aggessive sounding car, I just prefer the additional sound coming from the exhaust.
