Facelift ABS second brake light?

after watching that video the other day I noticed that the rear fog lights come on most likely when ABS is activated ( at 1:30) , a bit like the full brake light circle on the pre facelift. Anyone know what coding to apply to make it do this?

Neiter of these are coding issues. Full circle brake lights just needs a link wire fitting and creuise control is either plug and play or an extra bit of loom.

Based on the description in my owner's manual, it sounds more like the additional brake light area is displayed over a particular hydraulic pressure, rather than operation of ABS. Just my interpretation, I don't know one way or the other for sure.

I didn't even know which portion of the facelift assembly lit up for this extra display, so the video was informative, thanks.

I tried this with Wee Bing watching behind the car, didn't work either. I think you have to be moving for it to kick in with pressure, otherwise if you pushed too hard on the brakes when stationary in traffic you'd blind people. One is a fog light and the other is just as bright remember.

I don't think it would be wise to try and wire these up so they both light on braking all the time on the facelift... Though I don't think that's what the OP is suggesting
 
Has to be moving and ATS to do with pressure ie stamping on the brakes so to speak and not abs.

I followed a colleague at pace down some ending lanes, about the Bly time I've seen it in action.
 
Yeah mine has the rear facelift but the pre facelift light control module the wiring translates to run the rear marker lights (the LED strip at the top ) which was the wire for the inner brake circle this is coded now to have 12v running to it all the time, the brake light wire which would have been the outer circle pre facelift is now coded to just be a brake light with no 6v running to it when brakes are off. So i am pretty sure that any brake force display is not going to happen on mine so there must be an option to make the fog light the brake force display in the coding as there are many other option for turning the parking lights into the brake lights or the fog lights into the brake lights.... its a very flexible LCM. Theres even options for when a bulb goes out to use the fog lights instead of the brake lights.... which i think is standard trying pulling one of your bulbs and see... i was quite surprised clever idea.

When I first bought the car back in 2004 i remember watching a bmw video of a US Z4 the idea was that you got a half circle brake light normally then under heavy braking or ABS which I guess you have proved now is not the case you got a full circle i am pretty sure for UK this option was switched off and only worked on US Z4. Many forum members have wired it so you get a full circle all the time but there is likely an option in LCM that will make it work like a facelift LCM just need to find it :D might be: LCM 029A PWM_WERT2_NSL_ZUSATZFKT - REAR FOG LIGHTS ADDITIONAL EFFECT or 05BD ABS_MIN_STELLUNG_2 - ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) - MINIMUM POSITION < ABS listed in the light control module...?
 
I didn't understand exactly what you were asking when you asked in plain English. Once restated in Geeklish, I understood exactly, though I had to read it twice. :oops:

It may not be possible as US LCMs are different part numbers than the rest of the world. But the WDS indicates the wiring may be in place, so maybe it is possible. I think you're possibly on virgin ground, you'll have to tell us the answer once you've experimented. :)

It is worth an ask though, no point reinventing the wheel if someone has been here already. Especially since verifying if an option has the desired effect involves slamming on the brakes with a mate following behind being a bit risky.

"Additional effect" seems the most likely candidate, but I'm very curious what an "ABS minimum position" is. Could break apart the hydraulic pressure theory. Your guess is better than mine, good luck.
 
haha thanks bcworkz, i guess its no big deal if it doesnt work I was just curious as it is a great idea having extra brake lights esp fast braking on motorway I guess the problem is as you say the testing of it which I guess rules out any trial or error as i cant think of anyone to follow me while i test each code like a nut case... i could maybe take the bulb out and use some crocodile clips onto the bulb terminals on some long wire and upfront into the cabin and clip them back onto the bulb and see if it lights.... :rofl: a lot of messing around but you never know may save a rear end shunt one day.
