F1 Asymmetric tyres, directional?

Since they are not symmetric, hence the name, does this mean then that they are bi-directional?

Ie, all tyres are fine for either side of the car? Simply the tread pattern points the other way at the other side of the car?

Just trying to think, so long since I've had non-directional tyres. They don't make a left hand side and a right hand side do they?

Asymettric tyres will not be directional. They just have an 'Inside' and 'Outside' which will obvioulsy stay constant, whether they be on the left or right :)

Youll usually find more water channels on the inside, whereas the outside will have more rubber as you 'lean' on that part of the tyre more under heavy cornering.

Does that not mean that they are directional if there's an inside and outside? If you put the inside edge on the outside, i.e. get it wrong, then they will be rotating the wrong way? :?

No - when you reverse the tyre between left and right it reverses the pattern. I see what you're saying so I did have to check on mine :| . For example, the outer groove is horizontal and then curves up on RHS, on the LHS (reversed) the groove goes horizontal and then down. That made sense in my head.

They are not directional, only asymmetric. Take my word for it, I work at Goodyear
Hey , how about rolling a set west. It's damned hard finding 19" tires for my Zed and I'll need a set after the summer...... :poke: :poke:

where in Montreal are you ? (My wife was from Pierrefonds.)

Good thing.

You can just rotate tyres at each end (ie, left to right)

Directionals are ok, but you can do this without swapping the tyres around...

Interestingly I noticed an E92 in a car park today with really bad outer tyre wear, then realised they must have rotated the wheels left/right at the front... probably left it a bit too late by the looks of it... but would make sense to do every month to wear them flatter :D

I'm originally from Lasalle but now living in the suburb on the South Shore of the island. PM me for your tires, I have decent contacts out West at Fountain Tire.

Do you know the Baton Rouge in Laval?

yes of course, nice place to eat.

My GF's uncle is a regular in there, we came to stay a while back and became regulars ourselves for a week :) If you see an English guy called Keith, say hello from me :D
