Extending my Warranty

Having read through a few threads on warranties, I'm convinced that it's something I want to extend; mine expires in a little over a week. :(

I'm going to stick with the BMW one and have a simple question - for those who have extended, will BMW haggle over the price?

Ta.

They wouldn't with me. They told me its fixed for all Z4's and is dependent more on age and mileage as to the price. Someone posted they rang when someone didn't renew and offered them something (but they'd renewed just before the call). So that might be worth considering.

Whats the cost for the Warranty, I remember when BMW offered the extended warranty for my MINI Cooper S it was sharp intake of breath nudging 500 quid, :o I declined it at the time.

Tim.

I paid £280 declining the bmw roadside assistance part which added £80. You still get recovery if you break down more than 1/2 a mile away from home even without the roadside assist.

Thanks Gary, blimey thats cheap :) I've still got 16 months left but I don't fancy not having some sort of warranty. Its never bothered me with the Z3 probably as its more simple mechanically, less things to go wrong.

Tim.

Think yourself lucky you don't have the extra cyls of a 35i, extra turbo, injectors, hpfp etc and all the extra tech I packed into mine. Definitely took the warranty when it came around!

£280 sounds very reasonable - especially considering you have the turbo. Other threads I was reading indicated £360-£420 and considerably more for the M. If I'm offered £280, I'll be pretty pleased. Having checked, mine actually expires this Thursday and seeing as how there are only 1.5 working days left, I guess I'd better do the deed.

Yes £360 is the top notch cover, fully comp, the lot, inc roadside assist. I took the top notch cover but removed roadside assist as it comes with recovery free, taking the cost down to £280 which was as the americans say, a no brainer. I've already claimed on it once for a clicking wheel bearing. There is a £250 excess to get it to this figure. I'm happy with that because there's a good chance whatever fails will cost a lot more than that to fix, and anything minor I'll sort myself. Again, taking excess down will up the figure just like anything else.

Great. You've made my day as I'd braced myself for something nearer the £500 mark. I'll give them a call now and see if they're still full of Christmas spirit...

BMW has just mailed through all the various options and the prices are, by and large, the same as yours. Dumb question - when you say that you "removed roadside assist as it comes with recovery free", does this mean that as part of the comp cover you get some form of recovery/roadside assistance built in? If so then I can't see that in the T&Cs but perhaps I've misinterpreted what you said.

Roadside assistance and home assistance are included at the top tier. For £360 I could have had it included, it covers you for home breakdown and they'll try and get you started if you breakdown by the roadside. Removing this option reduced the fee to £280 which only includes recovery of the car to your home or dealer. I hope that's clearer.

Cancel that last posting - just found it. As part of the deal BMW will try and repair a fault at the roadside and take it to a BMW dealer if they cannot.

Correct. I saved £80 by removing the roadside option. I figure that even the smallest issues are likely to need recovery rather than roadside repair on such complex cars.

Agreed. I'm all paid up now at £284. I also took the top excess as I'm not so much interested in having a car that costs nothing to run, but more in ensuring I don't get bank-busting surprises.

It was me!

Manufacturers warranty expired 2nd Dec and I started a BMW insured warranty by the invite letter a only a few days earlier to ensure that the cover didn't lapse and invalidate the offer. A few days later I had a phone call inviting me to start a policy and there were incentives to do so - they wouldn't tell me what the incentives were.

I bought the "Bells &Whistles" policy with a £200 excess (£390) - I retained the assist bit as I go to Europe in the summer and feel that integrated one phone call assist policy might just be the best bet. Like all insurance though, I hope it's a complete waste of money!
