Hello All,

coming up to end of original three year warranty, have people taken out the bmw extended warranty, if so how much and could you haggle? Are there also 3rd party warranties people would recommend and what sort of costs are they?

thanks all.

I had the BMW extended warranty on an E92 330d LCI ... that was about £45 a month with a £50 excess. It includes roadside recovery and is to the same level as the 2nd hand warranty - not as comprehensive as the new car one but more than adequate and better than other 3rd party ones. The beauty is that BMW deal so no waiting around for a fault to be assessed by an independent warranty person. In my limited experience of using the BMW extended one it was great. No hold ups or issues and certainly something I would always do.

OK, so mine was not on a Z4 but most with the exception of 'M' models seem to be about £40-50 a month. Given the cost of repairing a Z4 at a BMW dealer I think it is a must to avoid potential pain - but each person is different. I am decidedly risk averse when it comes to money and car repairs.

I had the extended warranty on my E89 3.0i sdrive and will do it again once the current 35iS gets to that age. I don't do much in the way of mileage; but it's that peace of mind should anything go wrong, especially at over £100.00 per hour labour charges.

I took the monthly option which was £39 I cannot remember the excess. They do an annual charge. From my understanding the annual one can increase on the anniversary, however the monthly one remains the same (my brother only pays £32 on his 630 as he's had the warranty over 4 years).

I did look at others (warranty direct), however they were about the same price and above and better stay with BMW.

Never had to claim so cannot comment on the service if needed.
Hope that helps

The warranty on my 520d M Sport touring crept up to £57;85/mth (it was £56 in Nov 2014).
I've just cancelled it having sold the car and never using it, so can't help thinking that 16x£56 = £900 I could have still had in my account !

I've got it, but the premium has just gone up to 90 pcm including assist, with 100 excess. Thing is, this year again i have probably just about broken even with the warranty and its need, whilst the year before i racked up 1000s in warranty work :-(

All warranty companies will want the car to have been serviced in line with the manufactures recommendation.

I've heard of people going to warranty direct for example and being quoted more, you also can't claim for the first month of not more and as advised you need someone to independently check and sign off the work.

BMW warranty is an insured warranty and there is levels of excess which will raise or lower the premium. You can pay yearly or monthly and you can choose to include their breakdown cover or not again this will raise or lower the premium. For me the price of the warranty vs what could go wrong and how much it would cost to be fixed meant I took the BMW warranty on a monthly basis and it just rolls over without me having to re purchase every year. As for haggling.......no such luck I'm afraid as they know they are offering a good price vs competitors

I was quoted over £1000 for the extended bmw warranty on my e85. I looked at what things could cost that much and decided to gamble and keep the money in my pocket.
if it was less than 500 I would have been tempted.

Admittedly the bmw used car warranty got me a new roof so it's definitely a good warranty.

Is it correct that if you pay by Direct Debit it rolls continuously each year without increasing?

I'm about to renew for the second time and must say I'm surprised at how much it's increased this year!

Last year I paid £392 for comprehensive with £100 excess, no breakdown cover (as covered with my bank)
This year for the same it's £475.19! (had no claims and done 6k miles in that time)

Upping the excess to £250 brings it down to £363.63 or £34.09 a month.

If it's going to escalate £100 every year then nipping it in the bud and paying a continuously fixed DD is the answer.

Can anyone confirm?
