Exhaust valve issue

Hi all,

First post so hi all! just bought a 28I 2013. The exhaust flap was stuck so i have oiled it up and it moves now but when is it supposed to open? sports mode or sports+? I have vacuum but nothing is happening. I disconnected and jointed it through and it closes the valve when applying pressure. The electrical connector as a permanent 12v on it when in comfort or sports modes?

The button and engine mode definitely works i can feel the difference and the selector works in the dash display etc.

cheers

Welcome to the forum James, as far as I am aware the vacuum holds the valve closed and only opens at certain throttle positions, some people disconnect the hose and plug the end with a “golf tee” to give a louder exhaust noise all the time.

As per what Chippie said. :)
It isn't electrically driven, just on vacuum pressure (or lack of). The valve doesn't open and close by anything you can do.

Best way to check it works is to start the car from cold and look in the tailpipes. The valve should be open, then close when the engine warms up a bit. You should hear the difference when it closes. If you can't, back the car near to something solid, then you should hear it.

PS: I may have the got the 'open and close' the wrong way around! :D
