Exhaust Emission Values Warning Light + P0030 error code

Hi all,

After a lap at the Nurburgring, my exhaust emission light went on.

Fortunately, I bought a Scangauge2 several weeks ago. It says that the error code is "P0030" which seems "Ho2s Bank 1 Sensor 1 Heater Circuit". If I understand correctly, it's the lambda (O2) sensor heater.

Questions :
Does any of you had this problem and how did you solve it ?
Do you think I have to replace the O2 sensor ?
Do you know which is the sensor 1/bank 1 (I think it's before the cat but don't know if it's the left or right one) ?

Notice that if I clear the error code, it does not always come back immediately. And the problem does not seem to affect performance at all.

Thanks in advance for your help  !

Yeah its the pre cat sensor on the first 3 cylinders as you look at the engine.

I had the same code but for the bank2 post cat sensor.

Replaced the sensor and that cleared the code.

If the car is running fine and check engine or emmission light isnt illuminating I would be tempted to leave it and save £100. The pre cat sensors are more important than post cat ones, as they are involved with fueling where as the post cat sensors monitor efficiency of the cats.

Probabally best to get it changed actually.

Ah ok I see, I thought the sensors were on the pipes after the manifold like on the E36 M3 .

So I'm going to buy a new sensor :headbang:...

Thank you very much for your help  !

Yeah the precat sensor is just after the manifold before the cat. There is also a second sensor on after the cat. Each bank has its own manifold, bank 1 cyl 1-3 and bank 2 cyl 4-6. 4 sensors in total.

Easy to change. Only about £70 from Soper in Lincoln (not sure about France). I found cheaper from dealer than ebay!
You will need to get a Lambda sensor tool to remove it though. There are two types - a conventional long socket with a slit up the side and a sort of flat short ring spanner with a square hole in the handle for your 3/8" socket driver. Get the latter type if you can (may have to buy on line for about £7). It makes it MUCH easier to change the other sensors which have less room around them - just in case you ever need to in the future...

Having had my 2007 z4 3.0 coupe 5 weeks, today I gave it a long run from Manchester to Harwich. All was going well until I hit 200 ish miles when the exhaust emission light appeared?

The car still seems to be running fine. Just wondering what has triggered it?

Mine appeared after a Ring lap, when the exhaust is very hot (and loud ). Maybe something has burnt ?

What could have burnt? As I said above the car seems to run fine, will give it short run tomorrow to see if a quick blast with Tesco rocket fuel clears the fault.

If not will have to visit the garage on my way back to Manc on tues

So glad you mentioned this, after a quick Google for it I ordered one on Thursday, fitted it on Friday & I can now turn off the engine warning light that keeps coming on once in a while because of those blasted sensors in the exhaust system! Money & time saved at the dealer priceless! :) Just a shame it can't spot broken springs!
