Exhaust being fitted this week...

Just dropped the ZM to Hayward & Scott this morning. Should take about 3 days they reckon, and then be ready for collection. Looking forward to this a lot! Not heard any aftermarket systems on the Z4M yet that set my heart on fire, so I decided to go the custom route.

Decided to keep the look standard, so the tailpipes will be the same as stock, maybe a few mm larger. But hopefully the sound and performance will be something else.....

Definitely want to hear a sound clip when you get it back...

Hi, n00b here with first post.

I went to Hayward & Scott to have an exhaust fitted to my Subaru Impreza a few years ago (H&S was under 3 feet of snow, and an Impreza is actually crap in the snow). I guess once they've done yours they'll have the jigs available so they should be able to do them while 'u' wait.

Very interested in getting a decent exhaust for my Z4 M Coupe. It's on order, I've got 3 weeks to go. Apparently Scuderia Systems are doing a Tubi-Style exhaust for the Z4MC for around £1200, but I reckon going on past pricing that the H&S system will be about half that. Post up your experiences (and some sound files!) as soon as you have it. If you're anywhere in my vicinity (Bishop's Stortford) I'd love to hear it.

Thanks!

I ought to point out that between the Impreza and the Z4MC I owned a TVR Cerbera for around 3.5 years.

TBH I view the Z4MC as a slightly slower TVR, but without the reliability issues (I hope!)

Carl, welcome! Yeah, H&S seem to be highly rated by the Scooby and Evo boys....

I had the exact same opinions of the Z in relation to TVRs also, having owned a Tuscan S a few years back. There is something TVR-like about the Z4MC, but without the build quality issues, and maybe a few extra pounds around the waist.. ;)

I can't believe it's not even Monday yet. I'm dying to get the exhaust back! Got to find a lift for Thursday (when it should hopefully be finished - heaven help if it runs over schedule!). Anyone fancy giving me a lift? lol

Well it's back... Oh. My. God.

It's hard to describe, and the video doesn't really do it justice. There's no drone at all inside, and cruising on the motorway, the sound of the exhaust almost disappears - but as soon as you put your foot down, the gates to hell are opened!

Anyway.. here you go!

The link doesn't work. Say's page can't be found.

 it's so loud even on the vid, in really life it must be frightening. Bet you're well chuffed with it.

Erm.. it is quite loud. LOL.

But strangely enough, it really does seem to all come out the back of the car. There's no real resonance inside the car like you might expect with a loud system. Maybe for a daily driver it could get too much, but for a 2nd car, which this is for me, it just makes the grin 10x bigger :D

The problem with an exhaust like this is that the people you blast past get more pleasure than the driver. Have you let anyone else drive by you yet?

Some of the video footage in that clip was from me filming and a mate in the car. I know what you mean about it sounding better to everyone else! But that's ok, i don't mind doing my bit for the community :P

I'll get some photos of the system tomorrow. The quality of the workmanship is fantastic.

Have you got a dB meter? Would be interested in the noise level (usually measured at 3/4 of max revs, 1m away from the centre of the exhausts at 45 degrees).

My TVR was 118dB without the cats in, which in reality was too loud.

Edit: sixspeed, I've seen that numberplate around somewhere. What car did you have beforehand?

:D

In the clips when the car starts slowing, how far away is it then - looks like 2-300 yards? I can't believe how loud it sounds blipping the throttle even from that far away, unbelievable 8)
