Exhaust area rattle

Afternoon all

Been under the car today to finish a couple of bits off and to trace a metallic rattle

Only happened on tickover, centre of the car. Thought I’d dropped a bolt on the exhaust

If I tap these the sound is the same- is it cats deteriorating?



Deffo more the lumps to the left toward the back of the car

It got better then predictably it came back

Possibly something come loose in there? I'd guess the gas flow above idle is enough to hold it still?
Fingers crossed its just a bit of crud that'll find its way out again.

That’s what I’m hoping- sounds metal on metal, you know like a metal bracket on exhaust

At least, from your photo, it seems you are able to get decent access.
Does it do it hot and cold? Something expanding and opening or closing a gap somewhere?

Not something unrelated, like a stone trapped above the heat shield?

Hi,

I had the same thing, a gentle metallic tapping/rattle that I only noticed on idle.

Turns out that one of the exhaust hangers on the back box had fractured. The back box was still sitting normally so it was quite hard to notice anything was wrong.
Just a quick job to get it fixed though.
