Evora S - very impressed

I was lucky enough to have a quick go of a friend's Evora S at the weekend, and I'm bloody impressed.

It's plenty quick enough, 270bhp/ton versus 228 for the Z4MC. It shot up to 140 on a private road near me pretty quickly and with a gear left. :driving:

What really got me was the ride quality. It's stiff enough to still feel like a proper sports car (enough grip to make you laugh out loud around roundabouts), but the way it soaks up bumps + potholes is just witchcraft. I'd just finished taking the Z4 for a burn, and the comparison was amazing. I took it down a bumpy country road near me that would make the Z4 bounce about, but the Evora just glided across it. I can see why Evo rated it so highly.

It really shows that Lotus know a bit about suspension!

Downsides: 16mpg. Oh, and the price.

The Evora S is also 200kg lighter and a bit more powerful than a 1M, yet the 1M still beats it.

The official Lotus figures show it should easily beat the 1M, so there's either something up with the MotorTrend test (as I said it could simply be down to US power differences for emissions), or it could be that it's not as fast as it should be.

Have you seen on the Evo website the pictures of the lightweight version they are bringing out? Think it had 438BHP from memory and it's supposed to be their equivalent of the GT3 RS. I don't think there will be much change from £100k with that one.

I agree the Evora is eye-wateringly expensive for what it is. Evora S or Cayman R (with plenty of change with the latter) ? I'd be off to the Porsche dealer. I might even find a nice 997.1 GT3 for the same cash whilst I was there.
