European jaunt '09 (quite a few pics)

Excellent pics Pauly, interested in whether you've done any post processing at all?

Did you find the boot space sufficient for your trip? I'm off to Spa at the end of the month and not sure we are going to fit the missus' clothes and shoes in! Taking a Nikon D90 but none of my pics seem come out with the clarity of yours :(

Cheers Gids.

Re. the post processing, I shoot RAW (NEF on Nikons I think) all the time so always do a little pp'ing and convert to Jpeg to upload to the web. This can range from correcting the white balance, a bit of curve tweaking and sharpening through to full blown photoshopping (gradients, dodge & burning etc)! On quite a lot of the ultra wide shots I was using a circular polariser which helped to darken the sky and add to the drama and contrast. For most of the photos posted above the post processing was a relatively light touch, although the Black Forest shot and the Alps shot had quite a lot done to them in photoshop.

On the boot space side of things we found it more than adequate....we had tons of clothes (and shoes, mostly not mine!) all my camera equipment including tripod, laptop, bike helmets etc.....so plenty of space really. Soft bags tend to be more suited to the boot as you can mould to fit rather than having to play jigsaw with rigid bags.

Pauly_G, amazing pics :) I take it that it's better to shoot RAW then process and convert after?

Yeah definitely since the RAW file essentially is the raw data with no processing applied whatsoever this gives you much more flexibility to adjust things such as white balance, colour curves etc. With a jpeg, the data has already been processed with certain things burnt into the file for ever more.

Check out this link for a really geeky explanation if you've got some time on your hands!

Great pics.

Is that some kind of circular beam deflector that you've put on for the Euro trip? If so, there is a little device built into the light cluster to do this for you if you go over the water again. Keeps you from having to get the sticky stuff remover out when you get back

Is there - I obviously wasn't aware of that, as I thought it was a dealer job only. Where should I be looking?
