European Grand Prix

Lewis - stated that with 2 laps left had lost his rear tyres completely, saying that it was like driving with flat tyres, in that case it is pretty stupid to be aggressive with a "gungho" Maldonado when you can get a handful of points by finishing 4 or 5 th.

Jenson - happier with his car but feels that luck conspired against him, good to hear that he was happier, maybe when we get to Silverstone where overtaking is more than blind faith in your fellow racers generosity.

Overall quite a good race, given the track, but took some bad driving and bad luck to make it interesting......why oh why do we have events like this where the race tracks are really poor.
 
One of the races of the season imo, packed with incident.

Lewis did nothing wrong, and was perfectly entitled to hold the racing line. Maldanado idiotically barged into him after going off the track, its he who needs to show restraint. He could have taken Lewis anytime in the remaining laps. Top racing drivers dont simply jump out of the way for others regardless of the situation, its not in their nature.

Take Senna v Mansell in Monaco 1992. Mansell was much quicker, and had loads more grip after being forced into the pits for new tyres because of a suspected puncture. He was all over Senna in the remaining laps, but there was no way Senna was going to yield. It was actually one of the few occasions where Mansell showed restraint, because he knew what the outcome would have been.

Agreed and hopefully the loss of his point to his teammate will teach him to pick his moment more carefully next time. He may well have taken Hamilton on the final lap but maybe he wouldn't - Hamilton had used all his KERS up on the penultimate lap but with full KERS he may have held his place. Therefore I think he was entirely justified in trying to hold position. Until this race he was one of only two drivers to have scored points in every race so I think he's learnt his lessons from last season rather well so far.
 
Amen re Senna vs Mansell. Awesome finish to a classic race.

I think they over analyse and comment far too much about tyres in the races now

It's all down to the tyres. These new tyre compunds mean the cars handle more predictably the quicker you get heat into them. So, drivers that are traditionally easier on tyres, such as Button or Massa are struggling both in short stint qualifying - where they have less grip - and the race itself, where they have less confidence. Drivers that wring the neck of cars, like Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel are faring much better. As soon as we get back to cooler, damper circuits we should see a difference... It's a shame, as Button is one of the best drivers on the grid. Not as hot headed as Hamilton...

I still think he was right to try and hold line. Mr Whitmarsh should concentrate on making sure Lewis Hamilton manages to enjoy incident free pit-stops before being quoted in Autosport on his driving skills. How many points have the team cost him already this season?
 
I need a Schumacher victory as much as he does and hope that this week has re-ignited the fire. :driving:

I'm not sure that Maldonado wasn't off the track as a direct consequence of being crowded off by Hamilton
