European Breakdown Cover?

I am heading to France at the weekend so need to sort out Breakdown cover. I'm currently with RAC but the want £85 for a single trip cover.

Can anybody recommend any other company worth using, that may be cheaper but still provide a decent level of cover?

Used them last year for Le Mans. Think was about £30 for 5 days! That's 6 people, LR Defender!

Kwik fit. UK breakdown cover for a year plus continental Europe for a year, for £76.60.

My bank account package (barclays) covers me - and looking at the costs above for single trip cover seems like incredible value when I consider it's got our worldwide travel insurnace, mobile phone insurance, airport lounge access etc all in for £17.50 a month

Just re checked our current Britania Rescue cover includes Continental Europe Cover. £110. for three vehicles.

Must take a look at Barclays.

I am with the AA, just added European cover to cos like you I am off to france at weekend, I think it was about £35 extra

My biggest "shock" was when I rang my car insurance to double check everything was ok before I went and found that my european driving cover was third party only!!

I paid £40odd quid extra for 2 weeks cover fully comp.

This was with privilige - I'd previously made the assumption that the European element of the cover was on the same basis as my uk cover, but it wasn't.

Worth checking for anyone going on a euro jaunt.

Most insurances only cover you in rest of Europe for the minimum legal requirement there. As I drive abroad a lot I always double check insurances. As much as I dislike them, Admiral are one of the few who give you your usual UK cover.

Green flag might take 3 weeks to recover the car if it's not repaired though looking at another thread on here.

Small details to remember .....
On the peage thingy auto routes, if you break down, the only people coming are their own contracted breakdown trucks ..... So you have to pay, then claim back when you get home ......

So the most important breakdown protection you need with you is a credit card .....

I have a little different approach, when Im spending time travelling in different countries, I find it pays to join their own local "AA" service, you can do that online ......
I have an AA membership, NAF membership (scandinavia), ANWB for holland etc etc .....
Strangely enough, its not that expensive ........

NatWest has the same cover included in the account for breakdown in Europe as well as worldwide travel insurance (+ home serve etc etc). Certainly worked out very cheap for me.
