ESS now has a flash tuner, this device saves upto 10 different maps, this unit Vin locks to your car so is only for one car but will allow GREAT things for this car..... well done ESS!!!
so now we can get different maps so im thinking

1) /race fuel MAP
2) Valet mode map ( 3000 RPM limit leave you car @ the dealers and know it cant be abused)
3) Stock map saved
4) supercharger vt1 MAP

So for you stock engined guys you could maybe get a high performance Vanos remap, Sport button memory, and a whole host of options, this is a GREAT thing for us...
Even better we can do data logs, and send them for review, The map can then be amended and sent back revised, map updates will be a simple email away, loaded onto the flash device and straigt upto the car. Stock engined cars may want different vanos maps to allow lower cut in points for more torque ect ect.... This unit uploads Via the obd port in your car.

Btw.. i have the ESS Vanos timing profile change and sport button memory, great features.

mine needs to be here NOW!!! lol

Is this only for the S54? Any links? Price?

EDIT: looks like it. :(

so now i can my maps emailed to me and upload it myself while i have a cup of tea.... perfect. Very similar to COBB systems used for the GTR.. a Great device.

I have a similar device for my Porsche race car, with the added ability of real time mapping for both fuel and ignition maps (LH-Jetronic). The fueling function has auto-tune on top. Back to the ESS gizmo - datalogging is all good, but if you really want to make a decent difference, you need to get tens of hours of real time data and then to manipulate the tables, then go back out on the road / dyno, log some more data, go back to the maps, tweak them again, go back on the dyno and so on and so forth. These miracle remaps, where pre-set maps will get you XYZ are rubbish. Going back to the old debate - given that our engines are making 343bhp out of 3.2ltr, there isn't a lot left on the table in the ECU alone. In your case, this is a great tool - track map and a cruising map for sure. In my case - where I have a bone stock car for now - not so sure...

cheburator this is free with the maps so maps can now be loaded on @ home instead of going ALL the way to simpson or similar..... this will allow people to swap between the tuned and stock maps.....

Sure. I know what the device is. Rocket science it ain't. I was just questioning the "race map" vs. a standard map on a standard car. On your car it makes sense - my brother and I would give up an arm and a leg for this option on our supercharged Z3M Coupe, but on a stock car???

ok cheburator... your not getting it.. so ill spell it out for you..... people that WANT a remap on their car get this device with their map free, im just pointing that out to the people IF they decide to get a remap... Alot of people are put off by the fact they have to travel to get a map.... im showing their is another option for them now..... your clearly not looking for a remap soooo ermm maybe dont look at this thread, lol! Simples....... :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I pefectly well get it, dude... In my first post I said, that there are hardly any gains to be had from a re-map on a S54... Or do I need to go into the basics of why that is the case? Or shall I just go with the bullshit spouted by a few companies that a generic "re-map" downloaded into my ECU will give me 370bhp? My turn to :headbang:

Omg........ Lol!!!!!

(headbanged through wall)

Weve gone off subject.... Plus im bored now........................

Um, the 'canned tunes' will provide a DEFINITE increase in power, feel, throttle response etc etc over stock. You've got 91, 93, 100oct ones etc. Now, if that's not worth it to you over stock... then no need to purchase. What Beedub and I are getting at, is that an additional benefit is also the ability to get CUSTOM tunes, done either by data-logging with the device, or on a dyno. By the way... maybe on some first-gen product you were describing you had to go through SO much trouble. Usually these days, it's just a matter of a few decent idle, accel, at-speed logs and bingo. ESS digests it via an email, and spits you out a tune, made for your car specifically. The flip side is to do it at their shop on a dyno.
Bottom line is this is a GREAT product that should be welcomed. Finally...
It's usually a night-and-day mod. Much like Cobb, Diablosport etc do for every other ride.

May I ask how many engine maps have you seen? Or to be a bit more precise, how many engine remaps have you done? I am sorry, but I have messed around with enough ECUs such as Bosch, Autronic, Motec and Megasquirt to know that a few runs at cruise and WOT are enough to get a decent map. Damn those fools at BMW. I am not denying that there will be a gain - after all BMW caters for all sorts of mkts with different fuel grades. But if you believe that you will see more than 5bhp at best, then good luck. Btw, I am bored of this too...

Lastly, I agree with both of you that is a great product. Where we differ is that if you have a stock car you are miles better off spending your money on other things, which will make you quicker in the first place...

Beedub, I ride a horse, so 1 bhp is the most i can get out of her, so if anyone that thinks they can get anymore then you must be having a laugh....

Has that got anything to do with this thread?? NO!!

I believe when 'Bang Goes The Theory' tested an 'average' horse, they got between 1hp and 15hp out of it, depending on how the horse was worked - i.e. 15hp for short bursts, but 1hp for hours.

peddy you officially earn the wierdest post of 2011 so far!! :)
My sarcasm can sometimes be a bit too much and some people don't get it. LOL

It was in response to Cheburator unrelated posts about how a remap is pointless. LOL

mmm-five, that's actually quite intresting. that kind of follows the same pattern for cars? low bhp at low revs and max bhp at a certain high rev where it then drops dramatically or in case of a horse has a heart attack.

Beedub, when creating this thread did you ever think it would go so much off topic to such a weird one at that?

Of course, and is an analogy for the old proverb "The light that shines twice as brightly, shines half as long.".

That's why I'm a couch potato, as I don't want to use up my billion heartbeats too quickly. In some ways I pity the athletes of today, as they'll be dead by the time they're 50 :P
