Hi everyone,
I’ve been troubleshooting a persistent A698 error code on my 2013 Z4 E89 20i. The roof actually opens and closes perfectly, but the warning light keeps triggering while driving, even with the roof fully closed and locked. Restarting the car temporarily clears the warning, but it always comes back.
Using my diagnostic tool to monitor live data, I can see that rear end module closed.right intermittently switches to "No" while driving, which leads me to believe this is a contact issue caused by road vibration.
I physically inspected the latching mechanism and noticed that the small plastic roller/cap on the end of the metal microswitch lever is missing on the right side. The metal lever itself is there, but the plastic tip that acts as the actuator is gone. For comparison, the left side is in perfect condition with its roller intact (see attached photo).
The sensor lever is now just bare metal, which seems to create a slight gap, preventing the microswitch from being fully depressed.
I did a quick visual inspection of the wiring harness and everything looks intact, with no obvious signs of broken wires.
My main question:
Any insights from those who have faced this specific error would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

My main question:
- Could this missing plastic roller be the sole cause of the A698 error, or is this error typically tied to a deeper electrical fault?
- I found part number 54347190736 online, but I'm not 100% sure if this is the correct microswitch assembly for this specific latch position. Does anyone know if this is the right part? Do I have to replace more than one part?
Any insights from those who have faced this specific error would be greatly appreciated!
