Erratic/dangerous 2.5i

I posted a few weeks ago with speed sensor issues, I was getting four yellow warning lights and the C110 pointed to bad readings from the front right. I put a Chinese ebay cheapie on the front right which didn't fix it. I ended up putting a Meyle sensor on the front right and all seemed to be well for a day or so.

Now it's behaving very weirdly, the yellow lights stay off for up to the first 15 minutes of a journey before the four yellows (DSC/ABS/Traction/Tyre) come on.

Until they come on, when I brake I can feel the front wheel ABS coming on regularly (feels like FR) when the wheel's not actually locking up.

When I accelerate at times the traction control light flickers on and off when again there is no grip/traction issue and the power is restricted also.

And finally occasionally when I take the car out of gear it revs up to 5000rpm without me touching the pedals.

After behaving erratically like this for up to 15 mins the warnings come on and the car drives normally, albeit missing traction control.

Has anyone seen this before? Or had any similar experiences? I'm thinking the DSC computer is fried? It all started on a horrendously wet day.

Thanks in advance.

Can you post details of any new fault codes you have found? It does sound like an issue with the wheel sensor/DSC/ABS systems somewhere. Getting parts of the system overly wet can do things like this. It will definitely be worth checking out every connector at the wheels to make sure they are dry and secure.

It may point to the FR as that is the symptom, not the cause (if that makes sense?), but it could just be the sensor connection is still wet.

Thanks for the reply!

There are only the existing fault codes for the front right sensor, and when I replaced it the second time with the Meyle I cleaned the hub area thoroughly.

If I turn the car off the yellow dash lights clear, then come back on when the car's up to speed after a time.

I disconnected the plug to the DSC box, gave it a light spray of WD, dried it and replaced the plug a couple of weeks ago but to no avail.

It's a mystery, I don't want to send the DSC unit off to be reconned until I'm confident it's likely to blame.

Had something similar and it turned out to be a K bus failure with corrosion damage to the airbag control gateway module and its connections, which affected so many other things. A new module and connectors (£484.00-ouch) completely solved it. The module is located back of the seats under, or just in front, of what BMW call the oddments box (plastic compartments at cabin rear). Hope yours is something less expensive.

I've sourced a second hand ABS pump/DSC computer with the same part number as my existing unit.

Looks to me like you disconnect the brake lines from it, unplug it, unbolt it from the inner wing, put the new unit in and bleed the brakes through.

Has anyone got experience of changing this unit? Is it as simple as I think or does the new DSC computer need 'coding' to the ECU like some injectors do, or similar?

Thanks!
